Random thought: Wouldn’t it be ironic if HB has secretly hired Mike and crew to the development team for TGC2020? ;)

That would throw an interesting wrinkle into the mix wouldn't it?  I think he's too independent to do something like that though.

Yeah, but I wonder how much more decent they could get, yet still fit HB Studios course DNA, server based model?

I hope we've got a qualified sea lawyer or two tuned into this discussion, but I'd like to raise a question here about Perfect Parallel and Trackman's relationship.

Wasn't it officially reported that Trackman bought out Perfect Parallel and/or Perfect Golf?  I never could find a concrete statement as to exactly what happened, but the common thought is that Trackman owns the IP for Jack Nicklaus Perfect Golf, or Perfect Golf 1.  It must be the latter for Mike Jones to be saying that the ending of the simulator pass next August with Trackman and Perfect Golf, will make PG 2 more likely on the PC and consoles.  That would mean there still is a "Perfect Parallel" and that it is still free to create golf games, outside of JNPG (PG 1)?

Anyone else have thoughts on this?

It was asked in the General section of of TGC 2019 forum how Perfect Golf was, so here's my quick answer to that:

Perfect Golf, now known as "Jack Nicklaus Perfect Golf" is a good, but dated golf game on the PC.  If you own a PC that will run TGC 2019 at a good frame rate and resolution, it will probably run JNPG at a slightly better frame rate, at comparable resolutions.  It doesn't have 3D rough grasses (native anyway) and some of the heavy rough textures look really blocky.  There is an add-on that some community course developers are using that overlays 3d rough grasses to the game, but they don't look as natural as what you find in TGC 2019, IMO.

JNPG maintains compatibility with DirectX 9, and that sort of handicaps what they can do with it graphically.  OTOH, it isn't bound and restricted by themes.  You can put any degree of trees, objects, even custom objects in the course designer, and mix and blend your own custom fairway, green, and tee textures.   This comes at the cost of the requirement for a locally stored course file on your hard drive... files that can run between 120 and 500 MB.

The actually swing interface is more granular than that of TGC 2019, IMO.  I find it considerably easier to modulate a 90% swing on JNPG than TGC 2019.  The loft box doesn't allow the range of precision control that TGC 2019's does, which I find more realistic, especially with its more granular controller swing interface.

I like TGC 2019's putting just a bit better than JNPGs, but I prefer JNPGs chipping and pitching game, mostly because of the granular control, once again.

I play TGC 2019 much more than JNPG primarily because of the golfer animation.  The golfer in JNPG looks like something out of "Night of the Living Dead", and his animation is not motion captured.  It's not as synced as that of the golfers in TGC 2019, plus you can't customize his appearance.

I give the nod to TGC 2019, but JNPG is not a bad alternative... if TGC 2019 did not exist, I could easily happily bide my time playing JNPG.

Despite having not played the game, I've always had a keen eye on it's development.

Reading your review here ,it seems TGC is the more "rounded" game.
Having cut it ties with Trackman now, maybe the game will get back on 'track' and will be seeing PG2 in some form or other.
Though with it's painfully renowned slow progress, there is a danger that the polar caps will melt first.

It seems we are in golfing limbo at the moment with the HB devs remaining coy over a new game in the works.

Let's watch this space  ...

It's got a different, yet mostly realistic feel to it, which makes it worth playing, IMO.  I love the fully 180 degree reverse angle cut-view camera option it offers.  I wish TGC 2019 offered something like it. It's multiplayer online match options and flexibility are too numerous name.  I also love the fact that you have a match-up lobby where you can work out match setting terms, and chew the fat in real time.  I think we'll see a new edition of TGC 2019 before we'll see a Perfect Golf 2, if ever.

I just got an answer to my question about who owns who and what, as it relates to Jack Nicklaus Perfect Golf.  Trackman owns Perfect Parallel and Perfect Golf.  A new PC/console golf game that called itself Perfect Golf 2, or something like that, would have to get Trackman's blessing.  They haven't been in the console or PC golf gaming business at anytime that I can see, but Mike Jones said last week that the ending of the sim pass would make a PC/Console game more likely?  It'll be interesting to see where this goes.

This thread is truly an enigma that defies any sort of message board analysis.  For example, just for giggles, I periodically record the number of page views this thread has and compare that to the Perfect Golf general section (ie. not just one thread) and since August 28th, this one thread here in an off-topic thread in the forum of its chief competitor, has gotten received 6,032 page views.  That's more than twice as many page views as the Perfect Golf general forum section has received in that same time frame!?

This thread hasn't had a new post since September 4th, yet it's averaged over 500 page views per day over that span. :o  I don't know what's fueling that kind of interest to be honest, unless perhaps this threads long duration is keeping it on the radar of who knows how many bots?

Do you have problems with very short putts hitting back of the hole?.

Or is it only me

I'll speak to that... I fear a 2 footer in Perfect Golf more than a 5 footer because of the difficulty in regulation putt stroke power on short putts!

I see that the "Trackman Dropping JNPG August 2020?" thread has been totally deleted in the Perfect Golf forum, without explanation.  That was one of the more spicey and informative threads I'd read there in the last two years.  Wonder what was behind that decision?  Anyone have any insight?
