I was even thinking tournament bracket style..Jumble up some of the best designs of the summer, pair them off in a tourney bracket & have the community vote to see which courses advance to the next round._It will bring fresh new attention to our best courses & creators & spark fun conversation and debate,  as well as inspire and motivate both new and established designers to keep pushing the limits of thier skill & creativity..What do you think??

EDIT:
Modified the subject line.

Let's start getting people signed up for the contest.  It will max out at either 32 or 64 designers so that we can have symmetrical brackets.  The contest start is TBD but don't worry it will be at least two weeks after we have everyone signed up.

I will add contestants to the beginning of the thread.

The winning prize is also TBD.

- Build 3 holes at a time.  Each round you will match up vs another designer with the community vote on the forums deciding which designer moves on the next round.   If you move on, you will then build another 3 holes onto your existing course.
- Each round, a random wheel will decide the matchups.  We will re-seed the matchups after each round.
- You can build in any theme you want.  I will try to group similar themes together so early rounds will consist of matchups of the similar themes.

I would like to stream a play through of each course, playing the two opponents back to back.  Then do a results show for each round.

Initial courses will be due Monday Oct 12th by midnight EST.
Voting will start Tuesday the 13th and end the following Sunday.
During the week I will stream playthroughs of all the contest entries.
After the voting has closed, I will stream the results of the votes.
Then the next round submissions will be due Monday Oct 26th.

HB will not cast votes in the Polls.  In the event of a tie, HB will make the deciding vote.  The HB vote will be a team consensus.

When you publish your course make sure to have the number of holes in parenthesis.  i.e.   The Drifts (3 holes)

I will use this post to update the designers who sign up for the contest.  The contestant will max out at either 32 or 64 designers to provide a symmetrical bracket format.

Let's throw some ideas out there.  Do we do one course and you use that through the entire tournament?  Seems alot to ask for a new course for every round!

Maybe the winning course can get a large tile on the play courses main page, and sit atop the suggested list for a month

Don't know how they go on the tiles, would have to check on that.  The winner would definitely go on the Suggested list, as many others from the contest would as well I am sure.  I don't know that it could stay at the top as that list just gets ordered by when it gets put on.

I could see using the same course and building it as you go. That could work.

What I mean by theme is not the "theme" in the game but like "2 par 4's and a par 3 one of which uses a creek, one uphill, one downhill"

Maybe that's dumb though. :)

I'll think about it.

I would say jumble them or seed them any way you choose Keith, announce the opening round pairings..But only reveal the opening round parings so people dont start think too far ahead and keep everyone anticipating the next rounds potential pairings..Give the community a week to vote on each round so they can play the courses and formulate thier vote..After each round reseed them anyway you choose or have the bracket predetermined, just keep it to yourself & reveal as we go..Finally come up with a cool prize! This could be great fu!!

My thought is a March Madness bracket style tournament.  http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/tournament/bracket

Depends how many people will enter the contest.  The winner will be decided by forum voting.  HB will have a weighted vote but the majority would be from the forum community.

How does this sound?   Each round you build 3 holes.  If you advance to Round 2, you add 3 more holes to your course.  And so on.  Depending on how many sign up (up to 64) the overall winner will basically have put together an 18 hole course by the end of the tournament.

I think it would be good to keep it "blind" (not know the designer up front).  Might be hard unless the courses were not published..and we only had screen shots.  Maybe that's how we could nominate them...that way there isn't any bias intentional or not.

I think HB employees should do the voting!

Blind seems like a good thing to me. I'm all for it.
Community and HB voting together.
We let Keith publish the courses during the tournament then...when the courses are completed everyone can publish their full course themselves.

I like it.
