I built my first "good" course 18 months ago called Daggerfen Manor using the new Links theme and surface tools.  Within 3 months, it was dated and ugly.  However I always liked the layout and playability of most of the holes.  I spent about 15 hours modernizing the course, starting with a switch to the Highlands theme!  Every hole was retouched and improved.  Some holes still feature the 'scalloped rough' which was unique to this course.  The course is now re-released with new life as...

Daggerfen Manor 2016

Please give it a spin whether you remembered the first course or not (hosted an old LGGT tour stop on the XB1).  Let me know what you think!
7299 yds par 72.  Medium firmness fairways, medium firmness greens.  Green speed 163.
Very playable to all skill levels

Please post your impressions after you've played it Pyates.

Currently it's rated 8.5 on XB1, and 7.2 on PC.  Pretty interesting spread.

Please give it a try if you haven't tried it yet...I think it's an enjoyable round

Me and JohnEric, gave this course a walkabout on PS$ the other night.

We both found this to be an very fun and challenging course ... fun for JohnEric, as he proceeded to kick my arse and what was left of it, the course got the rest of it.   :o

I rated it a 9. I would have gave it a 10 and have, but exited the game too quick ...  ::)

My review from the 3Hole Showcase Contest: Series 1 Tour 3

Dale Burger (coruler2) - Daggerfen Manor 2016 ( Holes 1, 3 & 13 )
Forums: HB TGCT TGCT Course Page
Fairways: Medium Greens: Medium Firm, Med-Fast(162) Speed

The par 5 to start us off is a brilliant hole. It runs alongside a beautiful coastline with plenty of trouble to catch you out. My favourite part however is the green, to get close you will need to use the slope and execute it perfectly. However it isn't overdone and opens the hole up to anything from eagle to bogey.

Next up is a short but tricky par 3. I loved the slopes on this one, the large tier makes it difficult to get to the right level and the backstop offers an alternative way to play, running the ball back down to the hole.  The pot bunkers look really good as well.  Another hole where a range of scores are on offer.

Final par 4 is a classic risk reward dogleg... how much do you take off?  You can probably trim off anything up to 100 yards off your second with a long tee shot.  This means that depending on the wind you may play this hole in very different ways.  Converse to other holes the pin is protected by slopes taking the ball away from the hole, a shorter approach gives you a chance to stop the ball close, a longer one would be very challenging and would likely need a strong draw to get close to the hole.

Overall absolutely love this course. Has a very links feel and has a lot of links elements.  My only criticism would be that for that true links feel, the water maybe didn't have that beachy seaside look you come to expect.  Doesn't detract from an awesome course, would love to play it on tour.

Daggerfen Manor 2016: http://clvgolf.com/reviews/2016/4/4/daggerfen-manor-2016

Designer: Dale Burger
Theme: Highlands
Firm / Speed: Med / Med-Fast  (162)

Notes: A lot of things came together here for Dale, and the result is a very good Highlands course, that should be fun for tournament play.

My favorite aspect of the course, which some may disagree on, is the greens. The have some severe slopes for sure, but they are smartly designed. Each green has a safe location where you can hit to and place your approach shots for the kind of putt that you would like. Hitting the wrong area of a green can send your shot bounding away from the hole, but you aren't forced to hit razor-thin landing areas or face insane recovery shots. Even better, the shaping of the greens combined with the lighting makes for some of the natural-looking greens.

The greens also blend very nicely with the terrain in general. The smooth, rolling hills is a great look, and the lighting only amplifies the effect of the hills.

Lastly, the holes are smartly designed to provide lots of choices off of the tee. You can choose risky lines, safe lines, and best misses all around the course.

During tourney play, there is room for some heroics, and also room for disaster on the water holes. This is a great effort, and should stick around for awhile.

Thanks for the play and the review Craig.  You're a master designer, so always good to hear positive feedback from someone with a great eye for courses.
