PGA National (Champion)
« on: March 15, 2017, 02:34:20 AM »
Hey guys,

Not much to show or tell you yet but I've made a start just today on this one, thinking it will make a nice technical track for TGC2 so I'm going to give it a go. Info I have is Strackaline for the greens, a GPS for the layout and TW14 to reference off my old PS3 copy for elevation data and that, don't have access to Links 2003 or that but think I'll be able to get it pretty spot on if the TW version is accurate enough which on a quick playthru the greens are very accurate to Strackaline's data so I'm hopeful it is, also with no real elevation to contend with it should be a pretty straightforward and not to painful, looking forward to doing the detail work once TGC2 drops and hopefully I'll have some space to do some or all of the estates that line that plot, will keep you in the loop

If anyone has some more web based info regarding the course that you might think I'd find useful then share away

Cheers,

Rod

Haven't checked it out myself but there is a version available for Links03.  You can get both the Links software and course for free download.

I personally like using links because you can move your cursor anywhere on a hole to determine elevation from point-to-point without being limited by driver distance in TW.

Thanks Royce, I'll see if I can get it to run on the wife's laptop

TW14 lets you move the cursor around, it's a slow process with the speed at which the cursor can move but I can also pan the camera around too so it's going to be satisfactory to my needs just agonisingly slow... I used WGT for Congressional and it was awesome, pity they don't have PGA National!

I'm also thinking that I'll wait for TGC2 before I do ANY planting, so if I've just gotta do the layout and sculpting then I should have a playable version for us all a lot sooner than otherwise :P

I can see the course getting eaten up on TGC1 but hopefully with the new swing in TGC2 I'm hoping that RCRs and realistic fictional tracks will come to the fore!!

Yup, seems like beta feedback indicates that RCR's will be the courses that play well in 2, and that to me means tee shot placement/accuracy is far more difficult in 2 (thank goodness), since the common trait among RCR's seems to be properly wide fw's.

Quick update!

Have layed down all the Tees, Fways, Greens and Bunkers for the Back 9, went a lot quicker than I was expecting. Around 1.5-2 hours a hole I'd say so far, just got to outline all the water and I'll be good to start sculpting the back 9 holes!

Indeed it is Royce, just terribly out dated, that info and pics have got to be prior to 2014 when the renovations were completed, the pot bunker on 10 is gone, the one behind 11 green is gone, fairway bunkers on 12 and 13 altered a lot, 14 green pushed over closer to the water etc. you'd think they'd have current info on the PGA website....

That's unfortunate, figured coming from the PGA it would be good, up-to-date info......hopefully the hole descriptions still apply.

It would be interesting as Soft fairways, medium greens for TGC1 so if you hit the green fringe you dont get the concrete bounce, just think it might suit the florida course.
