What final checks should you make before publishing a course?

I'm in love! I recently discovered TGC game and despite TGC2 being just around the corner, I had to get TGC1. I'm so glad I did.

I've been building a pretty course near me in Kent, England (Leeds Castle). It's 9 holes, which I’ve faithfully recreated, and I've added in 9 'fantasy’ (but real feeling) holes too. Very little is auto generated and I've watched many tutorials on YouTube great creators have shared. I have racked up nearly 30 hours of editing and the course feels pretty much ready. I’ve played holes, added in detail, blended environments and it feels pretty real and unique… BUT...

Before I hit publish, what final checks should I make?

What are the things people often forget to check?

I've added signs, flown around to check and played every hole several times.

Thanks in anticipation!

Have you played it offline to test holes pins in game winds not the 1mph in designer

Welcome!  Be sure to post in the completed courses section so people can find your course and hopefully give it a play.

Are your tee boxes level?   :)

Thanks both - good tips.

My tees are level and I didn't know about the offline testing to try the course in a windier state - will do that now.

Ta!

Double check the set up. Are pin placements balanced? Are there small tee tweaks that will have an impact on how holes play? Is lighting optimal?

Here's something I do before hitting Publish. I play the whole course and watch every Flyover, but as soon as I see something I want to fix, I hit edit and fix it. I also look around 360 degrees from the flag on every hole to look at each putts scenic view. Then I slowly fly over the remaining holes in the editor looking for something to edit again. Then I start at hole 1 again and play the course while watching all Flyovers and if I don't stop to edit the course then and only then do I hit publish.... I like pretty courses. :)

Thanks for the great help!

Sadly the wind offline thing didn't work on the PS4, but I've taken a good look at pins, placement from the tee and panning around on the greens to make sure things look pretty.

Cheers!

Can you still edit a course  ... after it's been published  ?

You can't edit the course you published, it will aways be on your list with the name you gave it. You can edit a published course and then publish it again, but you have to give it different name, like Pine Valley and Pine Valley 2 or Pine Valley GC. Now you have 2 courses available, which no one knows which one now to play.

Most important is to play test it with actual wind conditions.  There is no wind in the creator to speak of and it makes a difference.  A hole that's challenging in the creator can be impossible facing a headwind.  That was my biggest mistake on my early courses.  Also MEASURE where you put things.

I've read this forum before and seen that if you 'edit' a published course, you are essentially republishing it... Hence why I want to get it right and not have long lists of the same course with slight tweaks.

Thanks for the points on wind. I've measured religiously, but in still conditions! I'll tweak away!

On average what wind can I expect on the course (rustic theme).

It varies.  Most times it's below 10mph, but the direction changes...... but there are windier days.

Thanks for everyone's help. Massively appreciated.

I held my breath and clicked publish after some last checks.

It's 'Leeds Castle (18 holes) v1' if anyone wants to try it out.

Thanks all
