I was shocked to see that the total Steam sales of The Golf Club 2 was only 7,412, according to SteamSpy!?  Does that sound legit?  I was expecting something along the lines of 20,000, or more at this point.  I know there are some retailers selling a DVD copy of TGC 2, but I can't imagine that's every widespread.

How many copy's did TGC1 sell, just as a comparison. Are we talking financial ruin, I dont think they sunk enough into the game to lose money.

TGC 1 sold 41,000 copies on Steam, the last figure I saw said.  Anthony said that number wasn't truly representative of what they actually sold for the PC, hinting that they'd actually sold more than that, but they're pretty tight-lipped about disclosing actual numbers, just as Perfect Parallel seems to be less than forthcoming with actual sales figures for Perfect Golf/Jack Nicklaus Perfect Golf.

Perfect Parallel also maintains that the  sales numbers shown on SteamSpy are under what they actually sold, but just like HBS, they won't quote the actual numbers.  I'm sure there's a corporate reason as to why they take this posture, but I think we can at least use the SteamSpy owners numbers as relative figures.  And those are:  JNPG - 18,056, TGC 1 - 41,000, TGC 2 - 7,412.

The corporate reason for not revealing actual sales numbers may be to avoid public embarrassment?  ;)

TGC2 has only been out a little over a month. Are the JNPG & TGC1 sales numbers for the first month of release or over several years?  ???

The publisher's promotional efforts probably didn't' add much to the minimal sales numbers for TGC2.  ::)

I have the game so no big deal to me. I am enjoying it and that's all that really matters.

Sure they may say why keep going but like any game, the end user will dictate the outcome of further projects.

Maybe , just maybe , there isn't a huge video golf game market?

OR

Consoles sold a lot more?

Could have been so much more if Maximum games would have advertised this more. What about an ad in Game Informer. Anything.

Is >150 concurrents a common measuring stick for gauging the success of a Steam game?  I'm curious as I don't really follow the market aspect of Steam all that closely.

Here are the platform sales percentages I put together based on some research I did for The Golf Club 1:

42% PS4
32% XB1
26% PC

Joel Thompson (HB Studios) responded to my post about it that my numbers were in the correct ballpark for the sales percentages broke down among the three platforms.  If these percentages apply to TGC 2, the speculated sales numbers would be as follows:

PS4 - 11,973
XB1 - 9,122
PC - 7,412

To answer your first question, I think there is a bigger video game golf market than most of us would admit.  Why do I say that?  Rory McIlroy PGA tour sold nearly 800,000 copies between the PS4 and XB1 :-\

A lot of people bought that because of Rory on the cover. If I recall it sold a lot better in Europe. Also EA has way more money and did a lot of marketing.

That being said MG did NO marketing. So it is what it is. Then you have major launch issues and that is really going to kill growth.

What should be more disturbing is the up and down ownership figures.
On 7-01 5,741, 7-04  2,272, 7-27 7,213, 8-03 4,748,  8-06 7,412 and 8-07 6,187.

I could be wrong, but I think TGC2 is the last version we will see. Midget mud wrestling videos, sell more copy's I think.
