Playing fro out of the bunkers around the green is always going to be unrealistic imo.. if I’m within 30-40 yards I’m using a 60 degree club.. it is absolutely ridiculous to think I’m going to break out a pitching wedge to his a shot out of the bunker at 30 yards regardless of the lie.. in fact the worse the lie the more likely I am to grab the lw...

I play golf irl tho and you don’t need to club up to a pw to hit a 30 yrd flop lol... but that’s video game golf....

I got to play one round with the new ball trajectory & spin and lie effect physics in place.  Like many here, I found the impact of the trajectory and spin changes yielded results that were much closer to reality!  I was very pleased with the way they affected the game.  OTOH, I thought the penalties for light rough were a little severe, and the sand and heavy rough penalties to be significantly overstated.

I had three tee shots roll off the fairway into a fairway bunker.  Visually, they were sitting up perfectly, yet showed a 54 to 63% carry with 5 to 7 irons.  I had 178 yards in one case to the pin with virtually no lip, and hit a perfectly struck 5-iron on flat terrain... the ball carried 106 yards and rolled out to 118 yards ???

The heavy rough I thought was overly punitive by a factor of maybe 7 to 10%, while the light rough maybe a factor of 3 to 5%. They seemed to be more on a scale of those we saw in TGC 2.  I had the impression HBS' target for this update penalties that would split the difference between TGC 2 and the release version of TGC 2019.

I'm confident that HBS will keep working at it and get this right.  The changes they made to the ball trajectories and spin gave this game a satisfying flavor... I can't say enough about good that looked, played, and felt!

Just highlighting a few great points.  If that ball is plugged, I fully expect to see a 54-63%, but the screen needs to SHOW that the ball is plugged.  Having the ball sit on top of the dirt, yet showing a 60% lie is just a poor representation and very frustrating for a player.

I agree completely.  I liked what I saw (for the most part) from the updated server settings the little I played.

Much like yourself, the penal qualities were overstated, much like they were in TGC2.  Especially bunkers.

I thought they were going to revisit the penal qualities, and split the difference.  TGC 2019 defaults were a little too forgiving...and TGC2 were much too penal.

I agree with your percentages.

What we saw was a good start.

Rough and especially bunkers need to be better as mentioned. For bunkers the lie penalty for plugged balls should be high, but for a clean lie and a normal full shot only execution should be harder, not the lie penalty.

The reduction in carry on the woods is very hard to understand. Too much of a gap between D and 3w now.

The changes sounded very promising with a couple of areas that probably warrant another look (in particular the sand trap lies and maybe the 3W carry distance although that one doesn't particularly bother me).

I wish I got to spend some time with it but I was too late getting around to it.

Agree I wonder if they are going to tweak anything before they release this update? I would think the bunker lie while sitting up would be a easy fix.

I only got to play 18 holes and hit a few balls on the range with the first server side tuning patch, but I really liked what I saw with the shot trajectories and ball spin. It just made the game take on a more realistic flavor.  I thought the heavy rough and most bunker lies were overly punitive, but they got a lot of feedback on that from a number of users and if they factor that in and make the proper adjustments, I think we're going to be in for a real treat this afternoon.  I know I've missed the new ball physics in the two rounds I've played since the patch was retracted.

They haven't messed with the "swing" yet, that's still to come.
