I've gotta confess that I'm interested to see how the online traffic for the XBox One version of TGC 2019 changes tomorrow, when TGC 2019 is made free for download via XBox Games With Gold.  In online multiplayer, we should be able to tell the newcomers by their number of games played in their stat listing.  I wouldn't be surprised if we don't get some new registrations here in the HB Studios forum.  There's not precedent that I can relate to in order to gauge what sort of numbers we might see, but I think most of us will sense a disturbance in the force tomorrow.

I personally know two guys who are going to download TGC 2019 and try it for the first time tomorrow, and neither of them have any expectations for it on way or the other.  They're both very casual golfers, but more avid video and computer gamers. I figured they'd be a good barometer.

I play exclusively on the PS4...and I too am curious to see what the non golf enthusiasts think of the game.  I have no way to see if there is more online traffic for matchmaking being on the PS4....so I will live vicariously thru what the hardcore Xbox guys say.

Most of us still here on the forums after 3 iterations of the game are hard core golfers....or at least hard core video golfers.

Anyone who has not purchased this game thru 3 iterations is most likely a casual golfer, or has no interest in golf whatsoever.  For me it will be interesting to see their reactions to the game...

I don't know how many newcomers to the game we're going to here from in this forum, but I plan to check out Neogaf, Reddit, and the official XBox forum to see how many of them weigh in there.

Ahhh, so you probably also played Links 2004 on the original XBox then, right?  If so, how did it stack up to the other golf games of that time, in your opinion?

Unfortunately no, Ive only just got my Xbox, Most PC golf cant compare to Links 2003, its still best Golf game made IMO. The Designer ( APCD) is far superior compared to The GC brands

i still play it on windows 10,(links 2003 pc),Wentworth really good on links 2003.

I still feel Links 2004 on xbox, one of the best console golf games ever, maybe slightly too easy overall just a shame the follow up which was supposed to be even better and canned near competition, xsn sports was great at the time play your round and see the score on the internet.Have the odd game now and again on xbox 360 still a soild game.

Great looking screen Yeltzman!  Links 2003 was ahead of its time, as was Links 2004 on the XBox.  I wish someone could create a mod to allow analog thumbstick controllers to be used in real time with Links 2003.  I'd be all over it!

I know it's early, but I can already see a big difference in the network traffic for this game, post "Free with Gold" launch this morning.  I've played 3 matches, via online matchmaking, and the longest period I had to wait was 6 seconds.  My second match hooked up in 2 seconds.  I'm going to join The Casuals Golf Club Society here in a few and see how that's grown, but a lot of n00bies probably aren't going to be hip to Societies yet.

On another related note to the "Free with Gold" release of TGC 2019, I see that there already been nine new reviews added for it on XBox Live.  Four of them are of the obligatory, predisposed, 1 star Hater-Aid variety.  One of the 1 star reviews gigged it because John (McCarthy... the announcer) is a bully.  Another because he can't get his backswing and downswing tempos to match.  Yet another got one star because "the game is a piece of garbage"... (sigh), ir you're going to call it garbage at lease explain why.

There was a two star review that was pretty in-depth, but its two leading cons where the inability to buy brand name clubs or clothes (there are some, though), and no buying or building attributes?  The latter is a plus in my view.

There were two, 3-star reviews, one of which the major con was not being able to apply spin after the shot, ala Tiger Woods PGA Tour.  Is it really fair to mark a golf game down for not allowing the player to affect its flight AFTER the shot's been hit!?

Two four star reviews that really seem to get what the game is about, from users who stressed how important it is to have a basic understanding of golf.

And finally, we had one 5 star review from a user who stressed how much the 4K resolution (Enhanced X version) helped in reading the topography.

I'll keep a running total of the post 5/15/19 reviews and update it in this thread, from time to time.

Thanks!  I am definitely interested in your reports!

I suspected that the truly "casual" video golfers may not like the difficulty of TGC.  Any of the folks like us have already purchased one of the TGC series, or have been here thru all 3 iterations.

This may be good barometer for HB Studios to see how many people are interested in "sim style" golf, versus the "arcade" crowd.  They are certainly going to get alot more downloads on the Xbox now that it is free.

In my humble opinion, I think you need to have both playing styles addressed if you want to have a larger customer base.  The only way to do that is add options, and or sliders to increase/decrease difficulty.

I think you're really on to something with this!  I think it worked for Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2006 - 2014.  I kept reading numbers from official sources that 15 to 20% played that game in realistic modes, while the rest was what we'd call "Arcade".  I have no problem with an arcade option being offered, especially if that helps ensure the financial stability of the franchise.

These are the sort of players who want the ball to explode on impact  ....
