  • Without Great Courses There Can Be No Great Golf

Got an idea and am trying it out.  I’m making a 36 hole Golf Club.  Right now I have it figured out where there will be 2 courses on the same plot of land sharing some things like clubhouse complex and out buildings etc.....  possibly there will be some common tees and fairways/ greens etc.... but I haven’t gotten that far yet.  I have a rough layout with the first course about 50% done and the 2nd course roughed in.  Anyways..... it’s something really different.  Included is a mock-up of the basic plot with the 1st course being a dual loop set up and the 2nd working its way around the outside of the 1st.
I have the trees turned down for the pics.  The ones there are planted ones from the original course before I got the idea for this project.  This is going to take a while, but I’ll post update pics as I go forward.

I have done the same the last 2 courses i have designed did the main course at Portrush then did the Rathmore course (valley) the course i perfer. Just  did enough on the holes on the valley you could see from the main course then finished course later. Was planning the same at Oak Hill 2020 new layout but at the moment just not got the will in me to finish the west course. As you can see from pic below only worked on holes on the west course from holes you could see them from the East,15th,16th,17th,18th.Find it hard going now doing one course let alone two good luck with project nice idea.

Nice !!!  Did you have to publish multiple times?  I’ve already published the first version (Duo A) so that I could rough in the 2nd 18.  Im thinking that I’ll need to publish A one more time and B twice total to get the views and maintain as much object meter for each as possible....Does this sound right to you?  This is definitely the most daunting project I’ve undertaken..... (I couldn’t imagine doing an RCR)  any advice would be greatly appreciated .  I love your work and consider you to be one of the iconic designers in the game.  Thanks !!!

Would be a nice option if you could publish both together but i had to publish one on console then do the other, not sure if you could transfer file on PC all too complicated for me.Kind words about courses but i would say i am one of the worst with the designer its just that i try and try again to get something looking right but in the end never happy with the end result its why i am always messing with them.

Project s tedious.... but coming along.  I have all 18 holes roughed in on both courses which got kind of confusing deleting the hole on the A course so I could lay it down on the B course.....  All the surfaces are created... so they stay for the views from the other course.......  Now m laying out tees and multiple holes on each green and working on tweaking everything and laying out bunkers etc.
This is so much more involved than doing a single course.........  I’ll post more about it in a couple days

I don't know if it would be worth trying to combine 2 sets of 9 holes from each course to create a 3rd course on the plot.

Interesting you brought that up CW.....  I was just thinking about combining 9 holes from each to make up 2 different 18 hole tracks last night.   That way if one of the societies wanted to hold a 4 day event they could do so with a different course layout for each day.  I just have to finish off the first two and then it’s just a case of reordering the individual holes.

Yeah good idea, even start the alternate courses with the back 9's first so it has a different first and last hole each round.

I wasn’t able to do it quite the way i intended....  but I think it’s working out well.  I ended up using the front 8 holes and the back 10 holes from each course to create the 2 alternates.  It just seemed to be a more natural transition the way the plot is laid out.  The #3 course is called The Foxtail @ 4Pines and is out now.  I’m working on the 4th and final setup now.
