after scrapping my last project, ive started working on the below:

Wanted to give this the name of "Sweetwater Mills" but I can't use "Sweetwater" so ill have to come up with something else.

got 3 holes laid out, looking for opinions on them:

Hole 1, a short par 4 hitting downhill on approach

hole 1 green angle view

hole 1 green reverse view

hole 2 green angle view, hole 2 is a medium length par 3, at around 170 yards downhill about 20 feet give or take.

hole 2 green greenside view

hole 2 green reverse view

hole 3 tee box view,  hole 3 is a medium length uphill dogleg par 5, not very reachable in 2, only wind permitting.

hole 3 at the bend

hole 3 angle green view

thanks wendy :D

as for an update,

have a couple changes to hole 3, the uphill par 5,  just added in some extra bunkers:

onto hole 4,  things start getting more interesting again, more of hole 1 and 2 inspiration in these next two holes:

Hole 4 is a very long downhill par 4 with a front pin location, green is guarded by two bunkers in the front, and water on the right

Hole 4 long view:

hole 4 mid view:

hole 4 bunker work:

hole 4 approach view:

hole 4 angle view:

hole 4 side view:

hole 4 reverse view:

onto hole 5,  a short par 4, less than 300 yards, but not drivable unless heavy wind in the back

hole 5 teebox view:

i must say, this is prolly my favorite hole ive ever completed to date

hole 5 fairway view:

hole 5 approach view:

hole 5 reverse view:

hole 5 sky view:

current overall progress:

i am really liking these results this time around,  giving some love to the rural theme.

on to hole 6,  a beastly dogleg par 5 that is reachable in 2 depending on how you play the drive off the tee box.

i really like the look of this one, like the creeks with rocks and trees closed in a bit
hope it doesnt play too hard, hows it go in the wind
retaining walls seem your specialty now

like the larger greens and plenty of room around them

thanks  mate for this one

Taste, out of interest why did you scap your project before this one?

I would be interested to know how many designers do scrap there creations during the process. I know I have scrapped some on several occasions.

planted too much rubbish, was too much to go back and try and delete it all.  its a shame, i sculpted the landscape really really well, but the good news is, I can do that again (and faster) the next time i attempt a links theme.

@ all:

I have published the front nine, the name is called "Colonial Nine Black",  please give it a play through and discuss any playability issues with me here.  Its not a beta course, just the front nine of a 18 hole course i plan on completing this week.  I have done my play throughs, and everything seemed good, but more opinions are always welcome.  If there seems to be one issue that comes up with more than a couple, then I will address it in the final release.  Thanks!

thx biggins and ariel, much appreciated.

on to update this with hole 7 thru 12 images: (just not all in the same post)

hole 7 is a short non-driveable par 4,  264 yards from tee to pin, what stands in your way of hitting this green, or even getting remotely close is a sharp dogleg at about 225 yards from the box.

hole 7 sky view:

looks can be deceiving here, ignore your gut and toss your instincts out the window, play it safe or pay the price.

hole 7 green reverse view:

as you can see, if you hit your drive too far, you will not like the results, instead of having a nice low yardage approach shot, now you are hitting out of either the deep rough or the bunker, harder to get close to the pin like that.

onto hole 8

hole 8 is a stiff downhill par 3, at about 170ish yards and 50 below the feet, this one requires accuracy.

hole 8,  with the pin sandwiched between bunkers both in the front and the rear, you have no options here other than the middle.

hole 8 reverse green to tee box view.

onto hole 9: tee box view

hole 9 is a medium length par 4, can be easy or hard, that all depends on your drive.

the landing zone is rather forgiving, with only a small bunker in the fairway, its easily avoidable, just stay clear of the right side bunkers at all costs.

hole 9 at the bend:

hole 9 reverse green view:

onto hole 10:

tee box view:

as you can see, yet another short par 4, this one will be taking the driver out of your hands also.  from 4 iron to 3 wood, depending on wind, just hit it strait and be sure to stop the ball before the fairway stops.

only go for the green if you are feeling frisky:

reverse green view:

up next is still not 100% done, holes 11 and 12, but here is the progress:

hole 11: (medium length par 4)

really liking that one bunker

hole 12, missing all bunkers (short uphill par 4)

view from green

now for the planning of holes 17 and 18

these two holes will shed some light on the last retainer wall,.....yes thats right, 2 holes, same wall.

its not nearly completed yet, still tons of shaping to do around the wall itself

to give an idea on just how long this wall is:

these last two holes will be running parallel with the wall, with the 18th crossing it on approach shot.
