I will attempt before completion, to satisfy the desires of many (including, and Primarily Myself) that want this to be as close to real as possible, given the limitations and challenges faced using only the GNCD and resources available.

That would be why I said, you have the course nailed, skip trying to reproduce the scenery and go with DAWG. I did say that, I really did. That was meant as a compliment not a put down.

I claim too many "Angry Balls" @ the 19th hole...   ( angry orchard ale and fireball mixture )    

Which, unfortunately continued on when I got home through the night,  drinking nothing but fireball over the rocks...

I had a few of those this past winter

14 holes down, 4 more to lay fairway to  ... then tree planting, terrain/greens/bunker shaping, beautification, testing ... and hopefully done before I pull all hair out and beat the Deadline ...

18 have been laid out.   Now the real work begins.

The dump trucks have finally stopped packing in all that dirt required to "Raise up" the entire course since the course I had 2 days ago ...    ( i wasn't happy with the way it felt ... it just didn't look Sloped enough) ...


Well - from the results of several test versions ... I have finally stumbled upon a "host of changes" that makes me feel like I just might pull this off ...

It may not be the "Real" course - but it sure gives a good impression of it ... at least 50% of it ...

I know a "few" already don't like it ... so I know it's on the right path .... LOL

(side note; The winner of the 2012 US Open finished with a final score of a 281: Plus One after 72 holes)

Official USGA website with Flyovers for all 18 holes ... Gawd I wish I could make this course in GNCD! But no ... I can only create a generic "yellow Box" wannabe version ....

Looking forward to this one Dawg! This course was on my list early on to reproduce, but a few other projects took over.

As I have to say with all real courses, please take your time and make it as great as possible, even if that means going past the US Open contest entry date. And of course, if I can help you in any way with the course, do not hesitate to ask!

Work still continues on this course ... even if I do not have a Proper theme yet to do this place any justice ... so, its all just kinda get it close and make it look somewhat recognizable ... But it will never be 100%, maybe with luck it will be 70-75% close to realistic ...

Well, I didn't forget about this course ... I just really wish I had a proper theme for it,  and the proper backdrop ...

hint hint ... (Jim) and a way you rotate the backdrops in 90 degree increments (Paul) ...

well, I am still right back where I was in the beginning ... making matters worse, damn addition of Distance marking vectors! and my OCD-ness ...

Adding to the fact I want to flip it from Boreal to Highlands ... but the one backdrop is out of phase and the trees/bushes change their types/heights ... If I am going to go thru this much work to create this course, and to get it as near that of the actual Olympic Club, I really have only a few options ... ONE is that I can just hold out and wait for a "proper created theme" that will offer me all the type trees/bushes/plants I want and need for this fantastic CALIFORNIA PACIFIC WEST COAST style course.

And this theme would also allow the creation of all the great CALIFORNIA PACIFIC WEST COAST courses to be created with a lot more realism and accuracy.  Torrey Pines, Pebble Beach, Olympic Club, Cyprus Point, ... just to name a few of the greats ...

Or I can just redo what I have started , which by all the responses I see ... I am just guessing nobody gives a ****, as I am not a top notch designer with a following.

So I can take my time and just do it how I like, and not care ... however ...

that's not how I roll ....
