When the season mode was released the tropical theme was tagged on so that only the people who bought the season mode could design or play tropical courses. Later the delta theme was added with the same restrictions. Now apparently we have a highlands theme released and still need to buy the DLC to have access to it.
Is this always going to be the case or will there be some new themes that we can all design or play in the future?

We just got Highlands (which I think is really good, BTW)  theme on the PC in the last couple of days, and it was part of the free update.

I have the update on PC and the highlands theme is not part of it. I have some GNCD changes like a measuring tool, cart path widths etc but I do not have a highlands theme available.

Highlands was free. You haven't downloaded the update from yesterday have you? If you have it's in there. They indicated it was free.

Highlands was added to the DLC pack for free because of the frustrations of the DLC roll out.  If you had already bought the DLC you got the Highlands theme.  If you buy the DLC going forward the Highlands theme will be a part of it.

BAM. Thanks for the clarification!

May I clarify my statement. The highlands theme is free if you buy/have bought the DLC pack. It is not free for everyone. If it is then I am missing something. My original question is will all future themes released also be reliant on my purchase of the DLC pack or will some get a general release?

No I get it. I misunderstood as well as I thought it was just FREE for everyone. I was simply thanking him for the clarification.

As for the future themes...I don't know that they have discussed it. I'm ok paying a little bit every now and then for two or three themes that will open up hundreds of courses.

I have no intention in getting into a 'value' debate. The situation for people who bought the DLC initially was that they got the bonus of another theme. Now there have been two more themes added. Many designers obviously choose to design using the latest theme and that is fine. However, when I go to play a new course there is no tag to tell me what theme it is (unless this is a new addition to the latest update - I hope it is, because it is needed!!). I have to click on a course from the list and wait for it to load in before I even know if I can play it, and with each new theme added this problem just escalates and wastes more of my time. I'm sure people with the DLC don't even realise that so far this is, or has been, the case for the rest of us.  ;)

At the moment, we don't have any info on future themes and whether they will be DLC.  That hasn't been decided yet.

I made a note about adding a notation as to the theme of the course in the menus.

In the latest update on the PC version (I think it's two days old now?), there is a search filter under "Advanced Search", which allows you to search courses by theme.  I tried using it last night to see if a Highlands course was available for play, but it produced no results, probably because no one has published a Highlands course at that time.  I think this tool is a great one, but I also think it could be enhanced a bit to narrow your results in more ways... it's a start though.

Oh, and I didn't realize the Highlands theme was added as a freebie to DLC customers either, so my previous comment on this holds less water.

Thanks, that's a good addition, but to be honest it really should be obvious on any page, using any filter I use which courses are the ones I can actually play. I shouldn't have to download them first!
