My second course under construction right after Tortuga is a highlands track. This theme looks incredible. I'm very early in the stages of making it, but I figured I'd go ahead and start a WIP for it to get some feedback. I'm only through 3 holes, but please let me know how it looks. I'm really trying to achieve a course that plays well in a links style here.
Here are some VERY early pictures of this one. Completed #'s 1 and 2 for the most part and will have 3 done tonight. Everything looks a bit bland for now since no holes are laid out, these will run very closely to each other to create a better look.

#1 tee. A downhill tee shot that has a very nice view of everything. Bunkers and elevation make this a pretty tricky opening drive.

#1 fairway. A bit of an uphill approach shot that goes over a large ditch. If you miss short, you'll be in a deadly bunker probably.

#1 green. A green with plenty of options to put yourself in a spot you'd like. This particular hole location can be a tough one to get close to unless you land short and left and hope for a nice bounce.

Behind #1 green. A look back at the fun you just had.

#2 tee. A longer par 3 straight downhill that has a large landing area in the fairway that can be used. Plenty of options once again.

#2 green. A view of the landing area and the tiers on the 2nd.

Behind #2 green.

Let me know what you guys think so far. This is completely heavy roughed, it's the look I wanted.

Just finished #3 pretty much. Long par 4 with a forgiving green that has plenty of room to land.
#3 tee.

#3 left rough, plenty of vegetation in the ditch.

#3 fairway.

#3 green. Flag isn't in for some reason. It's on the top of the tier towards the right. Tough location.

Behind #3 green. A look back. #4 will run parallel to the right side of the ditch back towards the water.

Hate how bare is still looks in spots but that will change once more holes are down and planting starts to fill up.

Got in more work today and finished the layouts of 4,5,6. I decided to not plant at all really until I'm done with general layout of the front 9. Then I'll go in and fill it up, so it will look a bit bare for now.
#4 tee. A downhill par 5 with a tight tee shot that will test your distance measurement. A really beautiful sight off this tee.

#4 fairway.

#4 fairway. It's a bit uphill at the end into the green.

#4 green. A massive green with plenty of options to run the ball towards the pin. The current location is back left and is accessible even with a ball that lands short of the green.

Behind #4 green.

#5 tee. A very short and drivable par 4. It's very risky to do that though. The smart play is a 3 iron or 5 wood to the fairway to give a lob wedge in. Make sure you yell fore to the players on #6 tee if you go for it.

#5 fairway.

#5 fairway. A view of what you'll have if you hit 5 wood to the end of the fairway.

#5 green. A tricky and fast green.

Behind #5 green.

#6 tee. A shorter par 3 that requires precise distance to navigate the false front on a front pin.

#6 green. You better hit your spot here.

Behind #6 green.

That's it for now. More to come!

This is exactly what i mean about this forum now, this guy has taken the trouble to post plenty of pics looking for feedback and after more than 24 hrs not one person can be bothered to offer anything up, way too much course saturation....back to this  ;) ....
Looks like you have a decent plot to work with m8, hard to tell anything else because your pics are a bit big, but you knew that already  ;)  get some more done with various levels of zoom and i'll offer my thoughts no worries  :)

Dogz, for what it's worth I can agree with you. I tried for a few weeks to play every new course and try and give some short review, it got to be to much like work. With the popularity of the game, so many new designers releasing work daily and quality work as well, they will saturate. I think designers looking for glory from the public, are going to have a hard time. Designers enjoying the design game for the love of design will carry on.

On to the course, I not in love with the narrow fairways.

So we went through a phase of firm and fast, then long, now we seem to be going through narrow fairways bordered by heavy rough very close. Not a fan of this.

Ok so we all want our course to be tough, maybe even grab a coveted tour on TGCT, we need them tough.

Maybe think about this, it's highlands, shortly there will be a wind change for competition play, people will be playing in hurricanes, widen the fairways, give us a chance.

I'm thinking wide generous rolling fairways where my ball stops on an uneven lie. I fail to see how that will play easy.

Just a thought Duke, good work so far, good luck.
Courses Created:
Coastal Taipan
Rattlesnake Pointe
Bethpage State Park Black Course
Glen Abbey GC
Horned Viper GC (Gold Tees)
Thousand Islands Golf and CC

Why do i play with a female avatar? Because I would rather look at an ugly female than a pretty male.....

Thanks for the feedback bud. I've gotten the pictures to a normal size now so hopefully that'll help the onlookers now. haha

Thanks for the well wishes. The pictures may deceive you a bit. The only narrow fairway in my opinion is #4, which I made it so because it's a very short par 5. I tend to make my fairways width based on hole length. So the shorter and easier the hole, the more difficult the tee shot. #1 and #3 have tons of space I think. I do want to go with more uneven lies and wider fairways as I progress on the course.

You're dead right Dogs, course saturation is a major issue - a lot of people only have time to check out a few completed courses each week, let alone try and keep up with all the WIP ones going on.

Not sure what the solution is to be honest.

Agree with you guys a bit, and the problem really is just with the people looking. For the most part, guys that have created courses and are established are the only people whose courses will really get looked at and talked about when they're being constructed. It sucks for newbies like myself who has only made one course, because I could use the people in the threads helping me out with stuff they see in pictures and on my streams. So pretty much, we as players of this game don't need to only go straight to the "top line" designers threads, and we should check out most threads and help when we can. It's usually pretty obvious which designs have a chance to be nice and which don't.

This is why i have now taken a step back from pimping my designs on here, it was easy months ago but now i feel sorry for any new designer trying to get his/her course played and noticed, all the big name designers here should maybe take a break from pimping and let some newbies have the front page for a bit.

Made some changes tonight mainly with terrain surrounding everything to not be so bare. Also raised the green on 5 and tee area on 6 to not make it looks so sunken into the ocean. I'll get some pictures tomorrow.
