Thompson Island Golf Club is officially open for play!  I was really into this one for start to finish and I hope it shows in the final result.  It's meant to feel rustic so it's a little rough around the edges.  Because it's an island most of the holes are along the shoreline but I really love the way the inland holes came out.  Anyway, if anybody ever reads this then have a go.  I dont think I'll be doing the whole promoting thing, but I will update the original post to add the new course.

Thanks!

Also just release a tour version with some added distance and different pins.  Actually scored better on the tour version.  Go figure.

Thompson Island Golf Club-Tour

As usual, I convince myself i would go all out with the window dressing on these courses but I just find that stuff mind numbingly boring.  As a result ,if you really dig deep, you may find some half-arsed stuff going on in the background.  My dock is awful, the clubhouse area is a joke and the 14th is something I knew I would regret.

played the Thompson Island original course and really enjoyed it

a very nice mix of multiple scenic peninsula coastline holes blending in w/ solid well conceived inland ones making for a very fun trip around the course

and TYVM for adding the incoming planes "to Logan" ---- you did Bahstin Haahbah proud w/ this venue concept

BTW, I kept looking for buildings etc "window dressing" during my round and finally on 18 I was rewarded w/ your clubhouse and dock complex and immediately thought:

"JHC....looks like a old MDC designed bathhouse facility for cripes sakes" lol  ;D  j/k

nice work as usual Scarp.....look forward to playing your Tour setup when I get back from the beach later today  8)

I played Thompson Island aswell. Very nice layout. You've stepped your game up with gndc.  Real nice course, which was well polished and most importantly felt good.  Now your course names. I saw someone incorporate their name into the course by using the word 'by' i.e Creek by  Scarpacci. I think that would have a more artistic ring to it. Also, if i didn't want to make too many threads in the courses completed section, i'd just start one thread called 'the scarpacci collection' , and put your courses there. I'll play another couple of yours tomorrow.

Had a good time on Thompson Island.  Liked the 2nd 9 the best.  I think you hit your groove on those holes!   :)

Thanks for playing Bigtee and Ram!

My next project is going to be slow going but I plan on streaming from start to finish.  This one will be based of Spectacle Island, another island in the Boston Harbor.  My plan is to have Thompson, Spectacle and likely 1 more  (thinking a 9 hole par 3 course on Little Brewster Island) and eventually put together a Boston Harbor Golf Tour for fun.

Just tried Thompson island finally (halfway through) and it's awesome!  Nice work scarpacci...I love this course.  Generous landing areas, beautiful to look at, and challenges coming into the greens.  Well done.

You know my next request right?  I'm dying to try this on the simulator!  Hope you'll release a 6200-6400 yard version...can't wait to see it on the big screen.  :)

Looks cool. I'll have to check it out.

Question. Is this the first course with the name Scarpacci in it?

Also, do you have a list of all your courses? I am away from my PS4 and cannot look for a few days.

Thanks.

Hi William,  this is the first without Scarpacci in the title.  The rest of my courses do have my name.   A complete list of my courses is in the first post in this thread.

Pretty much finished the first hole, which ironically tee's off almost exactly where the 2nd pic above was taken.  I'll post a screen shot when I get home.

Layed down hole 2 then proceeded to delete the whole thing when I realized it was crap.

I'm kind of stuck at the moment because the theme I want to use doesn't allow for and island environment (countryside).  I'm working in the links theme but it just looks a little bogus compared to the newer themes.  I can't really bank on the old themes being updated by the time this one is done.  Even if that were to happen, it means I cant really plant anything as I would just have to re-do it.  I've  done courses where I waited until the end to plant and hated going that route.

Only so many choices with the island set-up:

Highlands: Looks great but I would like this course to have a different look and feel than Thompson Island.
Links: Looks a little blah but it's the best fit at the moment.
Tropical: Actually looked better than I thought but not enough tree options.
Delta: Love colors in the Delta theme but I would have to cover 99% of the island in heavy rough and I don't think I'll be able to pull off the look I'm going for.  I would be able to do some interesting things with the shoreline so I many need to play around with it a bit.

I really wish 2 things would happen:

1. Give every theme the island option
2. Give the designer the option on which trees are available in the theme (mix & match).

OK, made some decisions, which lead to some progress.  Switched over to the tropical theme.  This limits my tree options but there aren't a lot of trees on the island anyway.

Hole 2:

Hole 3:

How cool it would be if we could do this:

Looking at the pic of the island from a few posts ago and now I'm thinking of removing almost all the trees.  Just keep the bushes and a few trees here and there.

Did a little more work last night. Removing the trees was a good move I think.  I'm liking the look. I did have the volume up a little higher than normal last night which highlighted another problem with the theme, the wildlife.  Apparently Toucan Sam is the playing partner on this theme and his non stop squawking is killing the vibe.  Not too many Toucans flapping around the Boston Harbour these days but I'm sticking with it for now.

Hey Scarpacci,

Played your Thompson Field course just now. It is a great course to play on.

Not too hard, not too easy, right in the middle like mama bear.

Some players will shred it up but the majority of TGC players are just average joes.

I like that you put a pack of seagulls flying around the lighthouse. Most people would only put one or two out there.

Also liked the way you made you coastline with just enough of an edge to look realistic.
This course reminds me of my courses in that with the way you set your bushes around (some auto generated of course with Highland theme).

I'll check out some of your other courses too.
