This is a cool project! Nice work so far.  How cool would it be if we had a skyline backdrop, and all water backdrop option for all themes (except alpine).. Maybe  with any luck it's "on the list"
My Courses:
Red Rock National
The Links @ Inverness Point
Pine Park Lodge (9 hole)
Helena Island Estate (9 hole)
Grizzly Paw Golf Club
Killarney Golf and Country Club
The Great Northern G&CC

Hey Scarpacci,

Played your Thompson Field course just now. It is a great course to play on.

Not too hard, not too easy, right in the middle like mama bear.

Some players will shred it up but the majority of TGC players are just average joes.

I like that you put a pack of seagulls flying around the lighthouse. Most people would only put one or two out there.

Also liked the way you made you coastline with just enough of an edge to look realistic.
This course reminds me of my courses in that with the way you set your bushes around (some auto generated of course with Highland theme).

I'll check out some of your other courses too.

Thanks William! Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for playing.

Wishful thinking, but fingers crosed.  Thanks!

Custom background images may seem like a good idea, but the copyright issue alone would scare Microsoft and Sony, as most people would be using images from the net to create them. The course file sizes would dramatically increase too, unless HB stored them all on their server. Even if HB supplied their own collection of 2D backgrounds there would still be lighting problems, especially if HB ever allow the player to choose the time of day for their rounds in the future. (something I hope will happen, but probably won't). Course loading times would also be longer, waiting for background images to download.
Backdrops would certainly help designers create more unique looking, or more realistic courses - I just don't think HB will see them as a viable addition.

Agree 100% Acrillix, custom backdrops would be an major CF.  I would like to see some sort of city skyline backdrop but it will likely be a full on theme if it ever happens.

I'm trying to smack the tropical out of this theme but not sure it's possible.  It will have to do because I'm too far along at this point.  This one is definitely going to play a little tougher than Thompson Island but should still yield some low scores.  The Tour version is going to be a beast once I crank up the green speeds and move the tees back though.

Progress pics:

Hole 5 (Blind tee shot so nothing exciting):

Hole 7:

Hole 8 (I think this hole will have the best view when all's said and done):

Just tried Thompson island finally (halfway through) and it's awesome!  Nice work scarpacci...I love this course.  Generous landing areas, beautiful to look at, and challenges coming into the greens.  Well done.

You know my next request right?  I'm dying to try this on the simulator!  Hope you'll release a 6200-6400 yard version...can't wait to see it on the big screen.  :)

So...am I out of luck hoping for a shortened version of Thompson Island for ProTee?   :)

Just have to comment on Thompson Island. Awesome course, Very realistic-feeling. Feels like a high budget semi-private club. Plays like a dream with aids off as well.

Well done, Sir.

I can't wait until scarpacci gets time to release a protee version of that one.  Thompson Island is just a fantastic design...love it.

I played this a few days ago and meant to comment then.
This was the first course in a while that I really enjoyed playing. I've played a few of Scarpacci's courses and I feel he designs with a similar philosophy to myself - probably why I enjoy them so much!! ;D
I definitely need to play the rest soon as I think I've only played 3 or 4 so far, and I hope that there will be many more to come.  ;)

I played Thompson island again last night...absolutely love that track.  I lipped out for birdie on 18 to fall one shot short of the course record...grr.

Still hoping for a protee version.  Anyway...this is a great course - get out and play it guys!

Dusted of the old design tools the other day.  I think I may be getting the creative itch back.  Does anybody play this game anymore? lol.

How about the forums?  Still active?

I was pleasantly surprised to see my play count has continued to grow. Thanks again everybody.

I've recently switched to playing Perfect Golf.
While I love TGC's designer, I find the gameplay experience of Perfect Golf far more satisfying, and realistic. Unless HB change their policy, offer more options, and create a deeper experience then I can't see me playing much more TGC in the future. TGC has been great fun, but the gameplay is a little simplistic for my tastes, and forces designers to create artificially hard courses to provide the challenge.

Now that was awesome to see this morning!  There are a ton of us here, and the simulator crowd is growing steadily.  As you know I've really loved your designs in the past and would be thrilled to see more from you scarpacci...plus ProTee versions!  Still hoping for that version of Thompson island with those 4 holes shortened that I mentioned.  Anyway, i'll look forward to anything you release.

Excellent, I've had the itch for a new Scarpacci course!

The forums have been pretty slow, mostly because HB doesn't post any new info and and are generally absent aside from some weekly tour that HB_keith streams on twitch.

Scruffy moved on to Rory and caused me to lose some interest, really miss his streams.....but the game is certainly still alive & active.

The rdh edition of Thompson will happen.  I'll let you know when I get it published.
