Where to start with this 9th hole? Everything was pretty easy and straightforward until getting to the green. Two challenges here: 1) Tying the clubhouse area into the 9th green area while keeping everything smooth and realistic, and 2) the green itself.
I feel like the clubhouse went pretty well. I obviously couldn't capture everything, but I was able to use steps and cart path to kind of create the front porch/patio area. I would have loved to use some gazebos to create a canopy along the front, but it was causing picnic tables to be sticking out of the building, so I had to abandon the canopy. Otherwise I like where the clubhouse is at.
The 9th green is going to need a lot of playtesting and tweaking with the Rory pin sets. I knew this green was crazy, but trying to replicate it is quite a challenge. First of all, I can only get a grid covering about 10% of the green at a time, so working on the entire thing requires constant moving of the pin. Also, there is 5-6 feet of elevation change from back to front on this green, so it has as much yellow and red as an Iowa State football game. Combining the length of the hole plus how uphill it is, it's going to be tough already before even getting to the green, so making this green playable is going to be probably one of the top challenges of all the greens on the course.
