Wow. I think I'm actually ready to call the property to the east of the Turnpike, holes 2-8, pretty much complete. The land movement in this area of the property is incredible.

5th Tee and 4th Green

5th Approach

6th Green

Back Tee at 7th

7th Green with west side of property and clubhouse in distance

8th Tee

Green at the massive par 3 8th

Where to start with this 9th hole? Everything was pretty easy and straightforward until getting to the green. Two challenges here: 1) Tying the clubhouse area into the 9th green area while keeping everything smooth and realistic, and 2) the green itself.

I feel like the clubhouse went pretty well. I obviously couldn't capture everything, but I was able to use steps and cart path to kind of create the front porch/patio area. I would have loved to use some gazebos to create a canopy along the front, but it was causing picnic tables to be sticking out of the building, so I had to abandon the canopy. Otherwise I like where the clubhouse is at.

The 9th green is going to need a lot of playtesting and tweaking with the Rory pin sets. I knew this green was crazy, but trying to replicate it is quite a challenge. First of all, I can only get a grid covering about 10% of the green at a time, so working on the entire thing requires constant moving of the pin. Also, there is 5-6 feet of elevation change from back to front on this green, so it has as much yellow and red as an Iowa State football game. Combining the length of the hole plus how uphill it is, it's going to be tough already before even getting to the green, so making this green playable is going to be probably one of the top challenges of all the greens on the course.

Wow that green is massive, looks like a football pitch in length.  Having to constantly move the pin around is a real pain, wish they had some way (at least in the designer) to cover a specified area of the plot, even fairways....would make sculpting so much easier, especially on those false front greens.  I've considered temporarily laying down green surface just to see the grid, sculpting, then removing.

All those subtle contours in the fw look great, really natural how they flow through the bunker and rough area.

Your effort on this course actually makes me want to fire up Rory and finish a round here.  Also really intrigued by the "mystery RCR" in your sig.....:)

Looks great so far!  Looking forward to seeing it soon.  One small observation from reality...  The mow pattern should be the smallest possible.  They cut their fairways with green mowing triplexes.  Must be nice to have that kind of budget...

The first to notice  ;)

It's a course I've put 5-6 hours into, so I figured I would put it in the sig. Probably totally unnecessary, though, as I've deemed it a project worth taking as much time as absolutely necessary. I don't work well with deadlines, so I didn't want to create any expectations.

Here is what I can give you, though. It's a very famous course, and one that absolutely deserves a quality rendition. There is plenty of info available, but also a ton of detail work in the course and surroundings. Nailing the design and the way it plays will be difficult, but I think totally possible. I'll also probably split time between this one and Crystal Downs once Oakmont is complete.

I'm thinking you are leaving the US and taking on Royal County Down.  Building on Chambers for a true European style Links course.  If I had to guess one in the US I'd say Winged Foot.  We will see...

Rather than posting pics of holes 10 and 11, I decided to upload a playthrough of holes 1-11 in wind (+2) for the round. Keep in mind that no hole is 100% complete yet, but 1-11 are decent representations of the eventual final product.

I see a course in those unpublished courses that looks exciting.  A very ooold course.  Could that be the Mystery RCR.  I think we all hope so...

Looks great, love seeing the course in action.  Wow that 1st green looks tough to hold on firm.

This one is shaping up to be right up there with anything you've created so far. Very impressive.
