I started running a small tour among friends (we had been doing ours with TW)......We try to be as sim as possible. And with that an issue has come up about how you manipulate the swing stick.

One guy uses his thumb and i believe 2 fingers. A portion of the tour feels like thats taking advantage of the game in a way it wasn't meant to. A couple others don't care either way. But those that do are pretty adamant about it.

Personally I feel like the game (like all games?) was developed assuming people are using their thumbs on the sticks, and to manipulate that (mainly because there are no other buttons to push) and is fairly cheesy. I need to make a ruling on this
asap. Would love to hear any feedback anyone has on this.

My thoughts for whatever reason is the way you grip the thumb stick is much like the way you would grip a real golf club. If you use an overlap, interlock, ten finger, strong, or weak grip on the golf club it is the grip that suits you and no one cares. If you swing the the video game analog stick with your thumb or three fingers what does it matter. Is the guy beating you guys regularly and if he is is it by an overwhelming score? If you guys are all competing with him then the guys that swing with just their thumb need to get over it. Its not like he is using a ruler, a modded controller or anchoring the putter :)

Awesome, thank you. Exactly the type of well written responce I was hoping for. And yea, he's generally beating everyone by a considerable margin. Infact he's probably soley responsible for us changing or 1st event every month to a Pro Am hahahaha....

  Anyone else???

I agree with Todd, as long as he isn't using an illegal aid or modified controller, who cares how he flicks the stick. The only reason you guys know he does it (I assume) is because he told you (or maybe you all play IRL together). Would people complain if he used his toes to swing and played well? Sounds like sour grapes to me.

You gotta be kidding stopits.  This is a video game,   there is nothing in the rule books on how you must hold the stick!  That's like saying that quarterbacks all have to grip the ball the way and they don't.  As long as the gamers aren't using axis software or rulers or similar objects if they've found a way to swing better than others because of a certain grip good on them.

I agree i just don't understand  "illegal aid or modified controller".
Do we all have to use a PS4 controller on PS4? and a XB1 controller on xb1?. i will use what controller i like on the PS4/XB1, i bought the game with my money i will play it how i like.
I bought the XB1 elite controller £150, are you guys saying i can't use it on TGC?, WHAT A JOKE.

Dude do you go looking for trouble in your real life? If so do you take alot of butt whippin's?
Your hand and the controller anything external to those is an illegal aide.

The only thing I will say on this matter is that HB themselves have said that the xbox and ps4 controller are compatible with game,  so I'm assuming they tested the game with the standard controllers.    I've always used what they recommended out of fairness to the game,   but that doesn't mean you can't use the other controllers that is up to you.

The only reason i'm thinking people would say the "elite" controller could be classed as a "modded" controller, because you can adjust the thumb sticks sensitivity, and you can hit straight shots every time with this controller.

Bull****. It is NOT "modded". It has profiles that you can use or create your own, but NONE of those profiles can be used to gain any advantage in a Golf game. Not sure about hitting straight shots every time either, but it is a precise controller.

Bottom line is that anyone using a controller that makes it easier to hit straight is benefiting from an unfair advantage.   I'm not saying that you are doing this at all but I have heard you complain about it being too easy to hit it straight.   I find it quite hard to hit it straight with my two PS4 controllers playing straight up,  and this is why I've never understood the argument of hitting it straight being too easy.   The guys that I play with are always hitting shots into the rough and you never hear them complaining about it being too easy to hit straight.

Again,  I'm not saying your doing anything to get an advantage,   but I'm interested in how much easier it really is to hit it straight with that NON recommended controllers.

Don't even go there.....you are quick to make comments like this without having the first freaking clue of what you are talking about. There is NO DIFFERENCE between the Elite and regular Xbox controller to hit straight as an arrow in this game. I was doing this well before I got the Elite controller and back when I was playing the PS4 version....no difference. Do not even hint at accusing me of cheating with a controller.

Not saying your cheating at all I don't know anything about your controller I'm only curious if it gives an advantage?  Can you change the axis in anyway?
