I have played this game long enough now. From tee to fairway and from fairway to green or bunker, is fine. But from bunker and green is where this game has no consistency. It is either to much power or not enough power is where it plays flat. I have a Logitech F310 Gamepad. When I use the thumbstick to putt, the putter feels like your using a sledgehammer to putt with. And when in a sand trap, most of the time you hit the ball way to short or way to long. You get punished for trying to learn the game mechanics. It is the fault of the developers for not taking some of Tiger Woods features and putting it in the game. They have had a 15 year head start to put good features in. It's like driving a Ferrari at 10 MPH. Pretty on the outside but sluggish on the inside  There is no way to practice. It is pretty bad when the people who make the game, have the players do all the work for them in making practice courses. Laziness. I paid $40 for this game.
The console versions of this game has everybody on an even playing field. The PC version is off course. Everybody has a different CPU, graphics card, mouse and controller. That is where the inconsistency lies in. There is no even level of play. Just frustration.
Plus I have a Heart Condition since 2014. I have Congestive Heart Failure (CHF). I just want to play a game for about 30 minutes of fun. Not this. I have been playing golf video games for about 15 years. It is kind of hard to stop playing. I guess my heart just isn't in it.

I think many has the exact opposite opinion - the short game is the only place where the game has some depth.

Use the shot-shaper. And you need to use the aiming market for putting.

I'll echo what McBogga said. Tee to green the game is too easy and its only the putting, that relies on feel rather than maths, that offers any sort of realistic challenge.

I use the aiming marker when putting. Tiger Woods had a similar aiming marker. I've played Tiger Woods since the PS2. It is just to inconsistent around the greens in this game. And the ball doesn't land soft on the green. I know about the loft control when hitting from fairway to green. I know about all that stuff.  In this game your on the front lines without any practice and you get punished if you do crummy. It's easy to bogey every hole when you play. I guess I should give up video games and just sit back and wait to die.

Wow, this thread took a turn! I think giving up waiting to die might be a little extreme :)

The putting isn't anything like Tiger Woods, the aiming marker doesn't control the distance of the putt in any way just the direction. It takes a bit of practice but once you get used to it the putting is the best part of the game.

The way the ball reacts when it lands on the green really depends on few factors. Obviously shorter clubs will stop more quickly than longer clubs but green firmness setting (of which there are currently 3 available to designers) and whether you land on a downslope or upslope also have a significant effect. Watching ghost balls land on the greens is a good way to learn how to land the ball in the right place.

The one thing I would agree with is that this game could do with a practice/tutorial mode to help new players.

If all else fails, there is always Little Brook Manor.

To quote red in Shawshank Remption..'get busy living or get busy dying'...do you expect to be the best player straight away??...practice makes better..i couldnt putt 4 **** when i bought this game, took me 6 months to learn how to putt on fast greens..now i play on web.com tour on TGCTour, not well but thats where i qualified..build yourself a 1 hole course in GNCD & use it for practice, you can auto gen one if you dont know how to..it doesnt have to be a great hole but you can place the ball anywhere you want & practice what you are not good at..it is frustrating sometimes but who wants to birdie every hole?..dont shoot at every pin, that is a lesson i learned on TGCT..look at the slopes on the green & try to feed the ball to the hole..i hope you dont quit its a great game if you take the time to learn how to play it.

Hey 735, no need to die just yet, Take drlowdon's advice and play the crap out off Little Brook Manor to get your chops and work your way up from there. I played that one countless times to figure out things but it's still tough on a lot of courses because they actually are not designed properly many times.
Then only play the easy versions of the best designed courses many of which are listed around here. Finding well designed 'easy" courses is another thing, it seems like they all get listed as easy until they get a ton of plays so finding WELL DESIGNED "easy" courses can be a chore.

I noticed you say you're using an Logitech F310 Gamepad, that might be part of the problem, I use an AfterGlow 360 controller and right stick for swing and it really feels right . I have the F310 and it's no comparison to the Afterglow. The afterglow has a curved inward top on the stick and the thumb fits in there to allow more control.
also make sure you have the "Drive Difficulty" setting to normal in "Gameplay" settings. Hard setting will cause the shot to slice a lot of times.

I'd be curious to see how you do on my Lunada Bay course. There are a few tricks to get to the greens depending on the wind but once you get within 10 feet putting should be fairly easy. Personally I prefer greens that if you are within 8-10 feet of green its nearly flat to keep the game fun. (because after 500 hours in the game I still don't do well on fast greens) I do get lucky more than before on those but when the fastest green setting is used when creating a course I just move on as it becomes not fun.
Your right that this game requires a lot of practice to be good on the harder courses.

hang in there man!

No need to quote........Dean and The Hack have given the only advice required........This is a great game...
There is no real reason to feel frustrated with a game...
Lower your expectations of what you want to achieve...
Get better quality tools...(should go without saying)

I am sorry for this post. I was just ranting and letting off some steam (no pun intended). Life is too short to get frustrated about a lot of simple stuff. Video games don't fall into that category. I am just going to have fun when I play the game and not get worked up over it. Again, I am sorry for this post. I hope I did not make people feel bad. Life is sweet and short. So just enjoy the game. Remember, there are more important things out there that need your time and attention.

Since you play on the pc this will be so easy.

Go into the designer and make a course. Let the designer design it for you. Make it in any fashion and theme you want. hard, soft or in between.

Then using the menu in the designer, play the course or any hole you want. If you want to play from a bunker, fairway, rough, slope, etc. look at the hole you are on from overhead (not the E button) and using the menu, select play from here.

If you want to practice that shot over and over, after the shot (you can do it while ball is moving) select ESC on Keyboard and then using that menu, select REWIND SHOT. You then can continue to do this with that shot as much as you like.

When finished "practicing" that shot, go to overhead again and select a spot on your course and do it all over again.

Out of all the tips and advice I have been given, read, and  not bothered with I have got to say @dustyroads  yours is the single most helpful I have come across. Somewhere to practice is what this game misses but that  bit of thought by yourself has  give me a shot of faith in this game that I have got to admit has painfully been draining out of me. Thank you

Thankfully TGC2 will have a practice facility where you won't need to go through all of that just to get some practice in..... ;)
