The more I think about it, it's likely I may consider diving into this

I've never really seen the appeal of VR... until now.  I'm now almost too curious NOT to try it!

I felt the same, but when work straps one of these bad boys on your head...my goodness.

Lets just say I'll be apologizing to my wallet...

Yea. Right there with you!

The only thing that kinda makes me pause a little is the whole setup. That's a lot of wires and I'm concerned about placement of the two satellite boxes. Are those wired or wireless??

Either way, I'm guessing I'm gonna jump on this because it's already grabbed me!!

It's not nearly as painful as you'd think. They are wired, we have em on inexpensive tripods in the corned of the room and they work like a charm.

HB Team - this all sounds promising but from a selfish point of view what are the plans regarding PS VR?

Alongside that what are the plans to use the move to swing the club?

I ask because the back n forth Anthony & I have shared are that he isn't keen on the idea of implementing the move on the grounds of keeping the input methods as close to even as possible. Is this now something that is now being considered?

Or do you envisage playing ps4 vr with the ds4 controller should this come to fruition?

Thanks

We are currently focused on the release for the HTC Vive and haven't put time into other VR hardware. We are not opposed to the option but it's current not in the cards. With that said, the swinging will be tied to the Vive controller for the HTC Vive version. There are no traditional gamepad controls in TGC VR.

OK - good to know.  Still sounds like a PITA to haul all that stuff out and put it back away every time BUT... Imma do it anyway!

One of the downsides of working from home!  I would love to try it out.  We need to work on how to get a demo unit down to me.   ;D

I'm a bit surprised to read this announcement; I had no idea that HB Studios was contemplating a move into the VR realm.  I'm pretty much ambivalent to VR at this point and I'd have to take a golf game or a racing game for a test drive to see if it really would appeal to me.  I've already broken an XBox One Elite controller's right shoulder button, getting the controller wire caught up in my feet, I can only image the disaster this would lead to with me at the helm.

There were moments in the video where there were three and four second snippets of actual gameplay with the Vive that I was intrigued by, but I have a hard time judging a computer or video game from these short-lived, scene jumping game videos that don't give the viewer time to settle in and see a complete sequence.  Still, I can't see myself dropping $800 on this device unless I played TGC VR in a demo setting and was compelled enough by the experience to buy it.

The Vive's motion controls seem to be the most highly touted in the field.  Still, I recall my first golf game experience with the Move on the PS3, and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13.  I didn't like it at first because the Move has so little mass, and doesn't feel like a golf club in my hands.  I bought a SimStix, which has a real golf club grip on it with a short shaft that gave the "club" a little more mass.  I then wrapped the shaft in lead tape until I got the mass I was looking for... it felt sooooo much better.  Without being able to put something together that has a golf club grip and a mass roughly equivalent to a golf club, I doubt I'm going to be able to get into the Vive's motion control.  It looks like it would have even less mass than the Move.

Finally, I'm worried about TGC VR suffering the same fate as the early Playstation and XBox Madden football games.  Early on, they were always a half generation behind the PC version,  which had the advantage of continuing development, as the early Playstation 2 and XBox versions neared their release at the turn of the
Century.  EA Sports had the PC version of Madden 2000, ready to go, but they Playstation 2 version was mostly based of the previous year's build of Madden.  It seems like TGC VR will be more based on TGC than TGC2, and it will look and play more like TGC.   For years I felt like I was playing a Madden game that was not quite up with the times on the Playstation 2, at least for those who had also played the "latest" version on the PC.

I guess the bottom line is I'm afraid I'd feel I wasn't getting the most bang for my Vive bucks ($800 of them by my shopping), playing a version of TGC that's missing a lot of the wonderful advancements in presentation, graphics, and gameplay with TGC 2.

I wish HBS the best with this foray though.  It's a bold step, but one that eventually could pay dividends if this generation of VR hardware truly takes hold.

This is very on point.  Until I stumbled upon this I was leaning towards the Pro Tee which would be considerably more expensive and take up a lot of room.  This however sounds like it could be a better alternative.  You really need to put together a video that has more than 1.5 seconds of gameplay though guys and let us see what it would look like to set up a shot and to move from one position to another on the course.

That was just our teaser for the announcement. We are working on putting together another video with more focus on gameplay, stay tuned!

Just know that I'm now holding you personally responsible for that $800 hole in my wallet.

Has anyone here ever tried VR gaming and experienced motion sickness from it?  I saw a video taken of a guy playing a VR game on the Oculus Rift and you could not only hear him speaking of getting motion sickness, you could see it in the way his body movements became progressively more unsteady.  I'm just curious to learn how common this might be, coming from someone who got seasick on a ferry in the relatively calm waters of Pamlico Sound :-[

Would it be fair to assess that you're a little accident prone  Jc

What with catching your finger on the badge and hand on the door handle .. just this past week

If I was sat at a shopping mall eating a sandwich and people watching, you're the sort of guy I'd like to see walk by ....

I get motion sick with a few First Person shooters - Half Life 2 and Portal being the big ones. But TGC VR hasn't done that to me while playing a round or exploring a course. I normally spend 30min + in there and i haven't had an issue
