We're several generations later in XBox One software development kits, and are now plugged into the power of DirectX 12 and Windows 10.  Will the XBox One version of TGC 2 weigh in at 1080p, hopefully with frame rates greater than 40FPS?

I'm going to set the over/under at 62 days, as to how long it will be before anyone can definitively answer this question. ;)

It has to be at least 1080p.  I'm hoping for 4k resolutions!, for both the S and Scorpio.  And yes, the frames will definitely have to be beef up, and run consistently.

If they're going to run TGC2 at 900p, no way I'm buying.

I'll go under 62 days, just to be optimistic. ???

I am betting Xbox One S won't do TGC2 in 4K. Scorpio, yes. PS4 yes, but at lower framerates than Project Scorpio's currently announced specs. I won't buy TGC2 for anything but PC and Scorpio....

The XBox One S can't play games in native 4K, all it can do is upscale them to 4K, which is a far cry from native display.  I'll be happy if the XBox One version of TGC 2 runs at >40 FPS @ 1080p.  With the advances made in Unity, the XBox One SDK, Windows 10, and DirectX 12, the XBox One should be able to deliver the game at those specs.

Yeah, I'll take the under on this also, but mine is based more on wishful thinking :D

I am just concerned what FPS this game will run. With waterfalls and moving crowds that will put a strain on the frames. Also full sized green grids would be great too but they could only do 40 feet around with TGC1 as I remember them saying it would bog down the game. I guess we will see.

I’m not sure I understand how this works.  HDR (High Dynamic Range) is new to me, so let me ask this question: will the Xbox One S be able to deliver games in 1080p HDR?  Secondly, I would take it that you need a display that was capable of handling HDR input, right?

I'm not sure on that either....... I'm thinking that "HDR" is maybe 720p?  It's better than normal resolution, but still not 1080.  I'm no expert on it.  I know that the XB ONE S will play 4K Blue Ray though.  Graphics quality doe look better on Forza with it.

I've been doing some homework on this and here's a pretty concise definition about what HDR means.  It has nothing to do with resolution.  It's more about contrast range and color depth:

HDR stands for High Dynamic Range and it basically means that games are displayed with a wider range of colours with brighter highlights and what seem like deeper blacks. But, you also retain great detail across all those mid-tone colours when everything is working together.

That essentially means that you get a more "true to life" presentation of colours, making everything seem more like what you see in your everyday life with your eyes.

If you want to get super technical about it, standard HD is mastered in 8-bit colour, while HDR is processed in 10- and 12-bit colour. That means you get 1,024 shades for every primary colour with 10-bit processing compared to just 256 shades from standard HD.

Here's a link to the full article, from which the above snip was taken at Digital Spy.  There are some side by side images there to show you the difference between HDR and SDR (Standard Dynamic Range):

http://www.digitalspy.com/gaming/feature/a811014/what-the-heck-is-hdr-ps4-pro-xbox-one-s-project-scorpio/

The XBox One S is supposed to be able to deliver games in HDR (if they're coded for it and I don't see TGC 2 on the current list of games which are) at 1080p, upscaled to 4K, if you have a 4K display.  I guess if you don't have a 4K display, the HDR still comes across at 1080p... provided of course that the XBox One version of TGC 2 will indeed be displayed at 1080p.  I would think 1080p HDR would still look more vivid and dynamic than SDR at 1080p?

Yeah, I even bought a better than average gaming PC a couple of years ago, and have upgraded its GPU twice now (most recently a Geforce GTX 1060) that at least doubles the performance of the consoles, yet I still can't free myself from the bondage of these inferior demons... do you know of an intervention group that might be able to help?

Wait for the Scorpio, and if you haven't already, get a good monitor/display.  Those GPU's you keep investing in every year or so, are money sucking you just to keep up with the latest and greatest, and will cost every bit as much or more as the aforementioned Scorpio/display.

How often when you buy a PC game, that you look at the min/requirements to run it, and cross fingers that your pc will run it the way you want it to?  With console, (and especially the Scorpio, which sounds like a beast machine) you need not be concerned with the lack of GPU etc, etc... just throw the disc in or DL and go.  How good is good enough for you??  When will it stop?   Just a little therapy for you :)

I do have my eye out for the Scorpio and will likely buy one, budget withstanding.

I only ask myself that question with golf games on the PC.  Why, because every other game I play on it runs at ultra settings, 1080P, at 60 FPS to 140 FPS.  The Golf Club and Perfect Golf are the only two games I play on it that I have to back graphics settings down to stay above my personal minimum - 45 FPS.

I'm sure the Scorpio will hold up quite well in the future proofing realm.  I just love consoles and their integration, although I admit I play games on my PC probably 70% of the time now.  Forza 6 on the XBox One gets the lion share of my console gaming, but I can't wait to see Forza 7 on the Scorpio!
