depends on what I am intending for a course ... in this case, I studied the area of the course in google earth, used the elevation at various points to get a rough idea of the heights from various reference points and started creating the plot ... Then I started the routing in google earth using straight line measurements and tried to copy the layout on my plot ...
From there it undergoes massive fine tuning and measuring ... If I was rich enough to have dual monitors, I would run Google earth on one monitor, while running the editor on the other ...
For now I use my tablet, or my laptop when momma isn't using it.
If I would of had the measuring tools we have now, I would have saved a lot of time. If I was better using peek-thru, I would have traced the course ... but that is quite a pain. I thing my current method is better for me.
With doing just a realistic fantasy course, I lay down and vector out a track idea, then move the terrain as how I feel ...
Nothing written in stone, everything is in a state of flux ... till I lose interest ... or figure I spent too much time on it ... and say it's good enough ... which turns out never to be the case ... I have never been satisfied with anything I have published ... I always find something I wanted to do and didn't.
Cart paths are a low priority item with me, along with all other fluff items and bling ... I am more about presentation of the view of the course, while playing your shots ... trying to bring as much of a course's layout from every shot ... not always possible when attempting to do a real course ... too many restrictions and limitations with the editor ...
That is a short response ... LOL
