Hey guys.  So I've been working on some new land for a course, or three.  It's in the tropical theme with the plot stretched out to about 120 square miles in size.  I am then going to build three volcanic islands to each house a different golf course.  The main island will also feature a small town complete with an airport.  Not sure yet if I'm going to build all three courses myself or hand off the plot to some better designers.

Here are some very early photos....

The islands are each about 2-3 miles apart I believe.  I also placed some various cargo and fishing vessels about a mile or so outside of the perimeter by temporarily extending the plot a bit more.  Runs pretty smooth so far too despite the gigantic plot.  I'll update this post as things progress.

That's a fun idea. I didn't realize the plot size would allow for you to fit three courses that far apart. Are you using the environment expansion glitch?

I'm currently about 1/2 of the way through on a similar project where I am building three courses on a single highlands plot. Outside of some very minor planting, I've only done a tone of sculpting and complete hole layout and design (including bunkering). After 33 "completed" holes, and am still sitting pretty with 5% of the planting meter used up. I imagine your island approach will free up even more space since the water will cover up so much territory.

Yeah, the pictures do not do justice to the size of this plot.  Each one of the islands is large enough to house 3 or 4 courses I think.  However each course needs to have at least one hole that runs along side the perimeter of the plot to assure the whole thing doesn't shrink down in size.  And yes, I'll keep a close eye on the planting meter.  I would like to keep it under 20% for the basic plot before the courses go in.  That would give me plenty of buildings to work with for the main island plus a few lighthouses and whatnot.

How about waterfalls?  Do they put a hit on your planting meter.  There are going to be some great places for waterfalls coming down the sides of these mountains. ;)

Waterfalls definitely put a huge hit, or so I've heard. Good luck, it will be awesome if you can pull it off. I think you will have to be strategic when you re-hole each course to keep the border from collapsing. And you'll probably need to use a Right Triangle formation on the islands to keep the X/Y border extended where you want it.

There will definitely be an airport, in fact the spot is already picked out.  Anyhow I published a test version of the plot to make sure everything works as intended so far.  It is only 3 holes long with one hole on each of the islands.  If you would like to take a look it is called:

TI_alpha_plot_test

The three holes are only placeholders, I didn't spend any time on them at all so please keep that in mind.  I gave it a quick go and it looks like everything plays very smooth.  It should be safe to continue I think.

I'll go easy on the waterfalls then.  I have one island (anchor point) on each of three different borders so they are at a bit of an arc.  And since the anchor points are pretty much on the far side of each island it will take some attention to be sure you can see the other islands/courses while you are playing each course.  Building them up a bit onto the foothills will help help with that.  I'll also make sure that you can see the airport from the golf course on the main island...it should be pretty much right above it either way.

You have to keep in mind with waterfalls...... Where does the water come from?  Unless you have a good sized island I wouldn't do more than little ones in a stream.  JMO though.... good luck.  Neat sounding project.
