Les,

Here is some coaching on my swing when it goes to crap....

Focus on the apex of the backswing and transition to the downswing. If you nail that properly, it is magical in the results.

You do not wait for the backswing to reach its highest point. You begin the downswing just a millisecond before the backswing gets to its final height.

Hope that begins to help you. I know full well how frustrating it is to lose your swing. Happens to me all the time.

The instructions above are what brings my swing back in line.

Thanks Divot but I’ve tried all those tips, my problem is I’m not just missing on one side that is something I can cope with, I’m getting the tempo pretty well perfect/perfect or slow/perfect which doesn’t do much damage but I just can’t keep it in the cone mostly left but get a few each round outside the right. It’s a new controller that came with my Xbox one X and I have an Elite controller as well that I have tried.
I appreciate everyone’s help but I think it’s probably something I need to work out for myself.

Do you use your thumb only or do you pinch the stick (thumb and forefinger)?  I pinch the sticks and after experimenting quite a bit I've found that having my forefinger at 12 o'clock and my thumb closer to 7 o'clock and then holding the controller a certain angle allows me to have good success with hitting the ball straight.

So if you're having issues staying straight with your path be sure to play around with finger placement and the angle that you hold the controller.

I use my left thumb on top of the left stick, always have for every golf game ever made and always will. Looks like I just need more practice.

Just played a few rounds tonight, same method of swing thumb on left stick, same controller can’t get the swing to go out of the cone. Hitting it pretty straight.
I don’t think I will ever understand the game, I’ve been all over the place for a week then suddenly I’m back to hitting straight again.

I think some of it is down to course lag and the server as to why it seems harder at times but it's also very sensitive with tour clubs so any slight variations in movement can produce different results. I find cone misses are mostly due to backswing path errors. It's easy to not notice you are doing it especially if your thumb is placed directly on top of the analog stick. Try looking at the controller next time your swing goes south in practice swing mode and look to the side slightly so you can get a clear view and double check that you are taking it back perfectly straight. The forward path can affect it also but it's easier to spot and it's less likely to occur if your backswing path is good.

Thanks for your reply mate but I have tried everything people have been telling me. Even with the player clubs I was all over the course both left and right, and then last night things went back to how they were before I have no explanation for it. My backswing is no different to how it has been for thousands of shots since the game come out.
This game you need to work things out for yourself or put up with it and that’s what I’m doing.

The courses here are generally harder than real courses, so I think the apples to apples stats would have even more of a gap than they do.

Designers adapt to the play and firm up courses, narrow them, eliminate green pitch, and add tons of penalizing water hazards.

I've noticed when i am off on the 1;1 tempo / transition of the backswing to downswing is when I pull shots/ miss my target the most.  ive never experienced lag in the game that effected the swing.  when I start missing I consciously slow down this transition and it straightens out.  players who were used to flicking the stick or being quicker on the downswing will not succeed.   this is with tour clubs.

HB - how about letting us choose where to tee off from? Key part of strategy in real golf and something that differentiate shots and players.

In response to the OP, ABSOLUTELY!!! Par should be an achievement, birdie eagle & on a huge bonus! Hard to see HB implementing something like this though at this point imo. Not sure why just a feeling.

Bring it on though, it'd be a welcome development in the franchise!

I would like to see a much harder mode of play myself, but as some have said its unlikely to happen. TGC is not a simulator, its a golf game directed at the casual player. I am going wait before I buy the game this time, if the multiplayer works half descent then I will probably buy it. If not then I can wait until another release sometime in the future.

Agree with this. TGC2 has come a LONG way towards being a viable sim golf game.  I have to play it with my own house rules to really satisfy me but it's absolutely possible and with TGC1 it was not.

TGC2 is easier to play in Standard Clubs than TGC1.....what else could they do?

Darned sure don't want to see any TW arcade elements soiling this great game.

Standard clubs was a bad idea. No casual player wants to hit it 250 off the tee...
