Question:  why does a Perfect Perfect swing result often in a very short distance shot?

most likely its because you are not letting the club head go all the way back....take the club all the way back and see where it tops out, but don't down swing.

Now try to time the startof your down swing when the club reaches that apex...you can have perfect/perfect tempo with any length of swing

I can't play with the Xbox One controller either. In my experience the thumb sticks are way too loose and sensitive for TGC2. I'm used to playing with Xbox 360 controller and the thumb sticks are way sturdier and stiffer. I hit 90% perfect tempo with the 360 controller and mostly straight, using Player clubs. With the Xbox One controller my tempo is all over the place and I can't seem to find a way to get straight-ish shots. I used it for a week or two and I couldn't find a way to be even moderately consistent. TGC2 has ZERO forgiveness for any inaccurate motion making it very difficult to use the Xbox One controller. There's nothing wrong with the controller, it's just a very bad fit for TGC2 in my honest opinion. I just picked up a new 360 controller yesterday as my old one broke and I'm back to business!

Do you have one of those sticks that allows you to use a 360 controller on an XB1?  I used to have one and it worked well.

I’m frustrated too, tempo on drives and putting. There is nothing to help you with distances. I either hit the ball too hard or not hard enough. The PGA Tour game has aides that you can turn on. This helps and makes the game much more enjoyable. I want a great golf game but if I don’t get any better I will give it up.

For putting, the marker is the secret to consistency. Set it correctly and it’s a big help. Quickest way to pick that up is to watch some streams.

You do need to put some time on the practice green to get the base distances down. It’s a very good putting simulation. Methodology is close to good real life putting.

As for the swing, try taking it back and forward a bit slower. Evenness beats speed. And Tour clubs ARE difficult. Don’t expect to pick them up in an afternoon.

Here is the way I cured my tempo issues - download a Metronome app to your phone, set it to 67 bpm, hit the driving range, and hit shots on the beat. It worked for me, it’s worth a try.

I only watch the avatar on partial shots and all putts.

Full swings are tempo based only for me as it's all about timing your stick/mouse movement.

Experiment by putting something over your avatar picture when full swinging. I'd say close your eyes but some find that hard to do while playing.

I am not a top tier player. not even close but to me it is tempo on full swings.

Now if they could get the perfect partial shot movement of the avatar down, this game would be amazing.

One thing I have noticed since I upgraded to a GTX 1080 vidcard and it is a huge difference, is I can move my mouse slower on a backswing when close to the green and am accomplishing near perfect-perfect shots with a slow backswing.

Not always the correct distance but tempo is getting there.

What, what, what?  But the Sim guys say the game is too easy! Say it isn't so?

I think most of us are saying the scoring and therefore game balance is wrong, not that the stick flicking is too easy (but it certainly was in the stress test).

And we are talking about the game at its hardest (and best) - tournament play with hardest club set and assists off.

A game without an easier mode for beginners will fail just as bad as one without viable multiplayer options. That is just common sense and I don’t think anyone is arguing that.

Posts like yours above is just polarising the discussion for no good reason by applying the kindergarten logic that things can only be in one way.

This post blows my mind.....  I’ve played with different kinds of controllers and the XB1 Elite is the best by light years on PC.  I’ve Also played with an XB1 and a 360 controller and all have worked ok.  I’d definitely recommend the investment in the Elite controller if you want a controllable and realistic swing.
