Cool. Which courses Jez? Nothing on Course Discovery. And speaking of 2K23 ports and new venues..
FAO - CGC-23 AFFILIATE DESIGNERS & ALL EXPERIENCED CREATORS
Our team of affiliate designers have created many beautiful tournament ready venues. And we look forward to more great ports and new designs in 2K23. For maximum exposure, and quickest possible inclusion to our schedule - please feel free to promote your 2K23 venues in this journal, as we still get in excess of 1,000 views a week here. We also invite other experienced designers to submit their work to CGC, either here or via pm. NOTE - Courses MUST be Tournament Ready (Crowds). TIA.
A review of some basics and helpful suggestions if you are looking to have us use your course in the Casuals, as with a new game there might be some new folks out there:
Make it fun and playableWe tend to play from about 6800 to 7200 yards, make sure you have multiple reasonable tee boxes
The course should be playable with no unreasonable, non strategic obstructions off the tee or on approaches
Fairways should be reachable and wide enough for casual playability
Bunkers should be realistic and sculpted accordingly
Flatten your tee boxes
Greens should be fun and interesting, not impossible or overtly difficult
Make sure you sculpt your course in playable areas well, make it look and play great!
Hole LocationsGood advice: make it fun and interesting, don’t try to make it hard. And play test your course, including all tees and hole locations in various winds
Make sure your hole locations are all tested and playable. Don’t put ‘em on step yellow or red slopes folks!
Multiple playable and interesting hole locations suitable for multiple round play
Hole should be “gettable”, ie you can get it close with a good shot
VisualsAnd of course, don’t overlook how your course looks.
Make sure plantings (Trees, bushes, grasses) are of realistic size and in appropriate areas and fit the course style. Vary it up and blend it in!
Please sculpt your course so that it plays smooth and true but it also impacts the visuals greatly and can be a great benefit to your aesthetics.
Stay away from singular stock shapes, especially with bunkers, vary them and make them look like they fit in the course design/style
A personal favorite, smooth those splines, make your fairways and green shapes look great! Bumpy, jagged edges can ruin your look!
And of course, Chelsea Saint favorite, put some crowds or tournament objects in there for a competitive look and feel!
