New to this...
In career mode I see that you earn both coins and points.
What are the points used for?

Are you referring to the points at the end of the round where you can see the meter going up?   When you reach the end of the level you unlock items.  Gloves, shoes, watch, sunglasses, extra coins, etc.

I'm sorry to appear obtuse but I'm not sure what meter you're referring to.
For example........... I  have just finished a round in my current career. I was fortunate enough to finish in first place. I recieved 181 coins and 500 points.
The points were added to my culmative total which stands at 1335.
I assume from you reply that these points will contribute to, as you say, unlocking items.......... but I can't see any meter that refers to this.
Could you lead me to the illusive meter please....

Is the points in the career mode not something like the FedEx Cup standings, that you accumulate points over the season and whoever has the most wins?

Sorry, I thought you were referring to the new game, where after the round you see the meter going up.

In TGC2,  you can have your Society season be ranked by earnings or points.
