Just noticing that we didn't have a single now post in the "XBox One" or the "All Platforms" forum sections here for over 30 hours... I think that might be a record. If you're like me, it's because you're playing the game more now with the ability to play it faster frame rates.
Anyway, I made an observation yesterday that might be of help to some of you on the XBox Series X and S, even though I noticed it while testing a course on the PC. There's a course called "Knob's Creek Tour", on which the CC tours are playing this week for TGC Tours. Some are noticing shimmering and stuttering on that course, even on the Series X. I noticed it while playing a test round and say both shimmering and stuttering/judder like I've not seen on the Series X, post 60 Hz vsync patch.
I set up a local match on the PC at Knob's Creek Tour using comparable Series X settings and resolution on my PC. My first tee benchmark measured 39 FPS, which is only one FPS higher than what I've ever seen on the PC on any other course, and that was Quail Hollow (official), where I see 38 FPS. I wanted to see how much shutting off the TAA (Temporal Anti Aliasing) to "None" would help improve it. I saw 42 FPS at Knobs Creek Tour with it off.
I then took that knowledge back to the Series X, where I typically play with AA set to "None", and changed it to "TAA". I could then tell the judder and shimmering was more in evidence. Turned it back to none, and the animation had more pep in its step, but honestly, the course - as gorgeous as it is - was borderline unplayable. Thankfully most of the performance issues with it aren't nearly as noticeable during the swing animation.
I'm only playing in the Beer League in TGC Tours anymore, but I was wondering if any of you are noticing this who may be playing a CC event right now?
