Following on from the Northern Californian coastal theme of Cape Naturaliste Club, I have decided to play a bit more with coastline course design.

Inspired by some of the limestone quarry holes of Joondalup Country Club (Robert Trent Jones Jr) and some of the rock pools on the South Coast of Western Australia, I have begun work on "The Rock Pools" golf course.

This 18 hole course plot has room for another 9 holes (at some future time) which will make it similar to the 27 holes at Joondalup CC.

I have planned the routing of all 18 holes, and I am currently working on the front nine, at Hole 5.

Holes 1 and 2 are about 1km inland from the South coast and run from East to West alongside the old limestone quarry wall to the right of the holes.

Hole 1 (Par 4) - approaching the green

Hole 2 (Par3) - inspired by the Par 3 third at Joondalup CC which plays over a quarry pit

Hole 3 (Par 5) takes the player South towards the coast. The hole doglegs significantly right and as may be expected is overall downhill heading towards the waters of the Southern Indian Ocean.

Players may need to play their drive over the sand hill on the right side of the fairway

The green is set in to the side of the hill sort of like an amphitheater surround by bushes

Hole 4 (Par 4) takes the player right to the waters edge where the green is perched above the beach near the first of several rock pools. The 5th tee is along the left side of the rock pool behind the taller bushes.

The approach to the 4th green with the rock pool behind the green

In Summer local kids ride their bikes down the bush track on the West perimeter of the course, then sneak through the sands hills at the back of the 4th green to jump off the rock pool ledges into the cooling water

That's about it for now.  Will post again when on the second nine. I will take my time a bit with this one and try to make it a bit more challenging than Cape Naturaliste.

Cheers
