*ORIGINAL POST*

bradleystuart's post "Ramblings of an old man...." inspired me with an idea because he mentioned sharing the course file with other designers.  It sounds silly and is more of an experiment, but hear me out and let me know what you think.

I've seen storytelling improv exercises like this in grade school.  A student starts telling a story and the teacher stops them and tells another student to continue the store, then keeps going from child to child until the story needs to be wrapped up.

What if we could have a course built by multiple designers. Each designer builds one hole, then passes it on to the next designer and they build a new hole, pass it on to the next and they build a hole, so on and so forth.  Even if it's only 5 guys you can go right back to designer #1 after #5 finishes his hole..  Everyone keeps building a hole at a time until the course is done.  So the course file will be passed around 18 times.  You're not allowed to modify another individual's hole, hole pars will likely have to be predetermined, and each builder has to try and maintain consistency with the holes already built.

Of course, designers can talk with one another, share pictures and design ideas, but ultimately, only one designer can decide the final design for a hole.

Might lead to some interesting results. It will motivate the next builder to try and build a better hole than the previous ones built before it.  You'd probably have to pre-decide what the par of each hole would be.

I'd be up for this if anyone is willing to try.

I don't think so. Doing that might inhibit creativity. Just use the land as you see fit and whatever the final par ends up being is no big deal.

The interesting part would be figuring out how to manipulate the land around the holes into one "atmosphere", so to speak. Maybe the original creator autocreates the land, maybe modifies it slightly to give it some feel as being one whole piece of land, and then each designer can only manipulate the land immediately around their hole?

Back in my PGA2000 days this was done to great success.  I wasn't part of the design process but followed it on the forum and played the course.  You could see each designers signature on the hole they did.  Maybe this is one of those design contests where your hole gets reviewed.

Was done several times in JN6 with greta success. Of course, it was much easier given that there was no full landplot.

I would imagine in TGC, whoever publishes the course is designated as the designer, so
who would take the credit? ??? ;D

.... or do you get to add designer's name when publishing?

Sadly there is no technical way around it other than making a Steam account with a team name I think that's overkill. I think the name should say something that lets everyone know it was built by a team.  And the individual that does end up publishing it would have to be sure to share credit if given praise.  I'll build a thread in the "Course Discovery" page that describes the process, who was involved, and we'll post pictures.

I'm thinking that we can collect the names of everyone that wants to participate.  Then I'll give everyone a random order number.

The first designer gets to choose theme, starting point and shape the general layout of the land.
Then we'll rotate through a designer for each hole until we reach hole 18.  The designer that finishes the last hole, gets to choose the sun orientation so that we can get the light right for all of the holes after they're done.

All designers will have to share emails with each other so we can transfer the course file to the next designer.

The next question is WHO WANTS TO PARTICIPATE? Let me know if you want to participate and once we have a group of people locked in, we'll discuss the process together so that everybody is happy with how it is going to be done.

POST BELOW IF YOU'RE INTERESTED.
