I know everyone is interested in the technical specifications of the consoles, and we told you they would be coming with the release date announcement, so here they are:

The PlayStation 4 will be running at 1080p with framerates of 30-40 fps.  The Xbox One will be running at 720p with framerates from 30-45 fps (possibly a bit higher).  Both will have the graphical equivalent of the ‘High’ settings seen in Early Access on the PC.

Allow me to address some questions from the get go: The reason the game is 720p on the Xbox One is simple - we couldn't get the framerates we wanted at higher resolutions.

I also would like to discuss the framerates.  Do not get bogged down in this number.  These framerates run very smoothly on the consoles.  Unlike many games, we have separate threads for the input and the graphics rendering on the consoles.  So while the graphics threads render at the above numbers, the input thread runs at 60 frames per second on both consoles.  So overall performance feels higher than what you may be imagining the number 30-40 fps represents.  Framerates on the PC are not on separate threads, but they are also not capped.

And cinches my decision to buy a PS4 now instead of waiting for the DriveClub to release.

I'll bet from 8 feet away you can't tell any difference. Much better is totally subjective.

I believe the difference is minimal between the 2, the main thing is it being progressive scan rather than interlaced. Admittedly it's disappointing the xbox seems to fall short on the picture front but when fighting against a company that's been at the forefront of TV tech for years it's always gonna be difficult

Yep, I agree. They will both be really good and side by side I would bet you would have to strain pretty hard to notice "MUCH BETTER"....again, beauty is in they eye of the beholder.

Whew, I'm glad you threw this bit in the announcement because I was a bit stunned by the 30-40/30-45 numbers.  In experimenting with the PC version, I honestly don't *see* that much difference in the animation between 30 and 45 fps, but I certainly feel it.  This information about the input thread running at 60 fps will translate into a game that feels better.  I'm now glad I've had the experience I've had on the PC with graphics card tinkering, otherwise I wouldn't have as easy a time buying the notion that 30 fps isn't going to *look* as good as 45 fps, or higher.

While many say and I myself am unable to see any difference on other games I'm not sure golf will be a game that I can't see differences. Still images are VERY different from movement. 720p in Titanfall is not bad but it's 60fps but if you stand still and look at things there is a noticeable diff from my PC at just 900p.

I haven't played this on PC but I'm hoping for the best.

I'm going to skip this one until a sale comes...if ever. Or if the resolution is upgraded to 900p

That's just me but looking at the changes and work M$ is doing with developers 900p seems to be the lowest standard although 1080p is becoming the low standard in August.

$34 for this vs Powerstar golf that I got long ago for $14 is a big diff

Again this is just me and my decisions.

Just not sure I'm buying non 900-1080p games

I sold my x360 for a reason.
