After seven months of waiting and procrastinating I finally got to play TGC last night, and the experience completely changed my decision to wait for a lag-free multiplayer version before buying it. I registered with Steam today, purchased TGC, and was playing it a few minutes later! I've already done a good few hours now and I have to say, so far I'm loving the game. Yes there are things that could be better, but I can't believe that some people do not think that they are getting their moneys worth with this game. Just one round of real golf can cost many times more! Just one days play and I feel like it has paid me back in enjoyment already!!
One thing that has surprised me so far, is how much fun it is playing a ghost ball with turn based enabled. It feels very much like live multiplayer, just without the chat. I've been lucky enough so far to have close rounds each time, but it would be perfect if, in the future you could define the min and max score so that you could always play ghosts of your own ability. Eventually though, if HB get the ranking system right I presume that this will be an option to select compatible ghosts to play.

Anyway, congratulations to all at HB Studios for this most excellent game. I can't wait to see how it evolves over the months and years ahead.  :)

It is a real bargain for the price, best love/hate item I own at the moment, but I think golf is suppose to be that way. I have played for 204 hours while you have been reading forum posts. :D

Well sir, glad your experience is positive so far... now stop playing and get to designing!   I'm really hoping that you've got something in the cooker in terms of creating a course.

Good luck and let me know if you want to do a round some time...

I'm unlikely to start designing on TGC any time soon. I recently started work on PGA Catalunya Stadium course for Links 2003. This will take two to three months to finish. Actually, if I now factor in my time playing TGC it is more likely going to take two to three years now!! ;D

Hey Acrilix - So glad you are enjoying it!!  I too love playing ghost balls...I find it just as entertaining as live...

Also, just so you know, we will be implementing a system that bubbles ghosts closer to your level to the top for you (though you would still be able to play any ghost you want).  That will likely come in to play when we implement a proper handicap system.

Awesome that you are loving it man!    I will be joining you soon enough after the next big patch with the putting info is fixed....   I already have on PC to tide me over until then....
Please HB,  give us a way to share user created society templates of our tour course schedules.

Hey Acrilix,

I'm glad to see that you decided to take the plunge and buy TGC.

I've always respected your unbiased and well thought opinions and suggestions for TGC.

I really hope that you can find some time along with creating Links 2003 courses to also create a TGC course soon. Your Links 2003 course creating skills will certainly carry over very nicely to TGC.  8)

Well, I've played quite a few rounds now, and ideas for improvements keep coming to me (most of which I forget again before I get back to this forum!! :-[) A couple that I still remember though:
I'd like to be able to 'favourite' designers so that the game could notify me when they add new courses (as happens with friends, apparently) Even if it just used the designer's names from the courses I've favourited as reference that would be great.
I'd also like to be able to choose the time of day I play the course. Keep the designer's choice as default, but let me change it if I want. The lighting effects can drastically change the look of a course. This would seem to be incredibly easy to implement within the game (unless I'm missing something), as the feature is already in place within the course designer, and is, in my opinion, an opportunity to provide variety that has been missed.

Well, after saying I won't be starting a TGC course design any time soon, I've just started a TGC course design!! ;D
I have to say, I love the 'instant' style of designing, where everything blends automatically, plants relocate with changes etc. It puts much more emphasis on creativity rather than the tedious technical stuff that is needed with the more powerful course design tools of some other games. I can now see this eating up a lot of my time in the near future!

One more suggestion for game improvement - I'd like to see the fly-by improved a little. It really starts off far too slowly, so I would like to see it begin at the speed it accelerates to, or start from an aerial position to save a little time. It would also be good if the designer could set separate fly-by waypoints to their course for this camera, as sometimes its route can be obscured by the presence of trees etc.  ;)
