This is some seriously good work here.
I have just played the course twice and the front 9 is good to go IMO, every hole seems just about perfect to me.
From the first tee you have nailed that look that you get from watching on TV, as much as you can with the current GNCD.
My favourite hole has to be the second, it looks great and the way it feeds down and round to the pin is how I imaged it to be. Both times I played was into the wind, but I managed to just make it both times with a 3 wood, once a memorable effort to within good eagle range (which I missed) the other just trickled into the bunker.
I like the fast greens coupled with the fairly soft firmness.
No silly, unfair roll offs where there could be potential problems.
The back 9 is shaping up well, I can't wait for the final release. Great work so far.

Picture of 10th hole now added. Only one to post right now.

Other changes to note. Lighting was changed from "morning" to "evening". As this version of the course will be released as the Sunday version, I wanted it to be late afternoon/early evening for the home stretch of the Masters. The shadows on the 10th green didn't look great to me, though, so I had to make the sun even lower to get the 10th to look better. It's a work in progress.

For the Saturday, Friday, and Thursday versions, I'd like to work my way backwards time-wise with the sun. Saturday will be mid to late afternoon, Friday will be midday, and Thursday will be morning, as if you are teeing off to start the Masters.

Last thing, I am leaning more and more towards the release name going back to Augusta National, Georgia (Sunday). I think if I do a good enough job, people will find it no matter what. And I'm down on the Suggested List right now, as I immediately went to work on releasing a new Pinehurst only to not see it included on the list after all. I'll just take my chances on not having a course there.

Due to licensing issues, courses with *real* names cannot be included in the suggested list. Pinehurst #2 will never show up there nor will anything named Augusta National.

I got a message from HB many weeks ago saying that they wanted a version of Pinehurst with a different name so that it could be added to the Suggested list. I put out Carolina Pines #2, and it still isn't on the list. All I have is a course with 9 plays that no one knows about or knows it's a real course, while both versions of my Pinehurst course have over 200 plays on 2 different systems.

Basically my point is that it's not worth it. HB may or may not put it on the list, but I'm sure it will do fine either way.

11th hole added. As I finish the 12th I will add some better pictures with flowers and finished planting, etc.

Yes, it will be fine, not trying to toot our own horn here, but if your course is selected for a TGC Tour event it will get close to 1000 plays (500-700) during tourney week, plus all the practice rounds leading up to it.  I agree with clv, i think the popularity and relevance of the name goes further than being on the suggested list.

They put auto gens with 0 plays on the suggested list... it's not as effective as it could be.

I'd name it what you want but you're right... if YOU build this they will come :)

when was this?

@ the OP,

not trying to taking from ya, just wanted to comment on the greens, it looks like they are over sloped.
are there good slopes at augusta, you bet,  but they are more subtle than you make them to be.

after looking through some photos of the course, this was the harshest green photo i could find, your greens make it look pretty tame.

just sayin.   rest of the course looks good.

I've seen 0 play autogens on the suggested courses several times actually.  They aren't manually choosing those things :)

and that pic does not do the topography justice - slopes at augusta would be unplayable in this game actually

#6 has a 6 foot swale in the middle of it... if you are on the front part of the green you can't SEE the back of the green :)  I hit a chip to about 3 feet (somehow) and the ball stopped... then before I marked it and it rolled off the green 30 yards down the fairway.  This was in RAIN lol

The only green tv does an even worse job on is #14 at Pebble... The back left of that green is 10 feet above the front right part - it's insane

I can see both sides of this, so I won't take a side. I've heard that unless you've been to Augusta, which I haven't, then you can't fully appreciate the amount of hills and undulations there. I can also see the other side where some of my greens do a look a little extreme compared to some pictures out there. Some pictures look right and some don't, it all depends on the angle.

My main focus is playability. I know the course can't be too firm without being unplayable. I want shots that we always see to play like real life, though.

The best example might be the 2nd. Compared to pictures, my ridge on the green does look quite steep. That green is the result of a lot of work, and most of it was spent on trying to make this shot possible: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zbZoMtu44bI

At the end of the day, I am fairly happy with shots like that, or the 6th green with balls rolling back to the front left pin, being replicated accurately, while still having the course be quite fair and playable. I will fully play test all 4 planned pin positions before release to make sure that everything holds up.

Those greens were designed for a different game than what we call "golf" these days.  Back when fast greens were like a 7 or 8 on the stimp, you could get away with big greens like that.  Now, with members and customers demanding that their course play up to tour standards every day of the year, these greens seem like the designers were on drugs, because they are not played the way they were intended.

oh i thought you mean the actual suggested list with the hand selected courses,  not the random plug and play on the main screen
