Does anyone know if SLI would help TGC?

Thought about maybe adding a 2nd GTX 970

A single 970 should run this game all out but it doesn't :(

Bums me out too - I'm not even bothering with a 980 as the gains aren't substantial enough to warrant the huge price jump.

The 970 is a real sweet spot of performance/price.

One other note about this game and performance - This same Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 970 I have here runs Prepar3d (newer FSX) in 4k at around 45-55 fps with very high settings in populated areas using OrbX scenery and Carenado GA planes.

For those who don't follow flight simulators - OrbX scenery packages, around cities like Seattle with settings turned way up (in 4k especially) are absolute stress test GPU/CPU hammers and you've normally been able to say that if you could run a scenario like that well, you could run most anything.

...I mean I know TGC looks good - but it's still hard for me to understand how a HUGELY demanding flight simulation scenario is performing so much better than a golf game.

Ooh - have my ppl - I need that game!

I agree above 60fps matters.  I am running with the AMD FX 8350, 8gb ram, and the Zotac GTX 970 I just installed today.  I've got the Seiki 39 inch 4k monitor, but it is only at 30 hz refresh for 4k, so I run 1920 x 1080 with 120 hz refresh, and Fraps is showing me around 95 fps.  The game is so fluid.  I had an AMD 6 core processor and the AMD Radeon R9 270x and I was only getting in the 40's for fps.

Give X-Plane 10 a shot.  You can actually get it on Steam believe it not.  It's a really nice simulator.  I'm about 2 flight hours away from my first solo.

The crazy thing is that I only recently developed a fascination with planes and it's all because I happened to get into RC Planes a few years ago and one thing led to another...  Doh!

You know what they say - the only difference between men and boys is the price of their toys.

I use XPX also (I'm also a pilot) - Both have great strengths and some weaknesses so I end up using both and bouncing back and forth.

XPX performs a bit better on this card for me, but it's a hard comparison to make as, even with 3rd party solutions, the "world" is just more populated in P3D, thus hitting FPS more.

4k looks simply stunning and 1080 is blurry and "gross" by comparison.
But the *way* the game plays @ 60fps1080p is undeniable.

I wish I had your dilemma Turbineseaplane, but with my PC, it's neither nor.  I can run the game at 1600 x 900, high-detail in the start menu settings, but I have to run object detail at 1, HQ trees and tree draw distance at their minimum settings just to get 30 to 38fps.  I can cut it back to low-detail and get 45 to 50 fps, but the courses really lose their character in low detail.  I do see the benefit of the higher frame rates, not only in the consistency of my performance, but in my overall sensual enjoyment of the game... it feels a lot more "alive", for lack of a better term.

If you're able to play the game at 60 fps/1080p, with the object detail set to 3, and I'd guess you have high quality trees and draw distance well above minimum, you're still getting a pretty good looking display.  I can adjust my PC to deliver images at those settings, but when I do, I'm in the low to mid-teens, and by no means have a playable game.  I just know I wouldn't have too many questions about image quality if I could play the game at those settings and achieve 60 fps.

You're experiencing a level of performance at a resoluton that I honestly thought we'd have out of the XB1 and PS4 when the game launched, according to an article that ran at Gamepur back in March.  All I can say is I envy you  ;D

Wow. You are making me feel lucky indeed!  I actually don't have HQ trees/Distance turned up much - Will play with that later.

I'm now at the point where I won't do anything that dings that 60fps, so we'll see.  :-)

Re: Consoles - It sure doesn't sound like it's performing that great on the consoles (Especially XB1) based upon those forums.
I'm looking into P3D. Which license would I need to buy?

Most everyone I know using it at home buys the Academic license

Me too Dawg. Been on a little hiatus lately while in pursuing my private pilot's license but I got really into RC planes for a while there.  I'm turnerm on RCGroups by the way.

Got plenty of videos on my YouTube page too. Just search for Michael Turner 3DHS.

Yeah ... I never really wanted to "Learn to fly" due to the fact I would want to do in real life, what I do with my models ... and would probably wind up like Jimmy Franklin & Art Scholl ... So when I feel the need for speed, I ride ...

I have stopped flying because "golf" got in the way of my free time.

PS ... I go By D_Dawg on RC Groups and on RC Universe ... I just haven't been on for awhile ...
