I will not call it the Olympic Club, as with the current objects and trees) I cannot due that course true justice, so I will just have to make a wannabe course ... It will be as close as I can get within reason ... It  started life as a flat plot, but this time I added some auto gen trees, just to (Possibly) save time ... but I will be thinning out the ones I don't need not want and adding a lot more manually ...

And just to protect myself from criticism and this course being compared to the actual Lake Course At the Olympic Club ... It will be a reasonable free-lanced facsimile ... based off the course layout ... terrain and greens will vary ... can't make it the way I want with the GNCD .. So, I get to do it ... My Way ...

If you only knew how bad it is for me to use the controller ... I'm faster and more proficient with the mouse & Keyboard ... in GNCD

And now ... yet another Video session (this time I embarrass my self with mumbling monotonic voice stimulation)

Never get comfortable with a course ...

if you're going to take the time to make a course, take the time to do the best you can.

I have over 25 hours into this now and I haven't completed one hole yet ... not including all the time researching and making these stupid videos ...

LOL

Not trying to "sell" anything ... If you want to see a video diary of my progress, and what it takes to do a course "my way" then watch ... I am not saying my way is the best way, or even the "right" way ... it is how I tackle designing.

The name has changed to protect me from the real course.

I do not wish it to be confused with the real "Olympic Club" course, but is does share a resemblance to the layout in a lot of ways. Hopefully it will play something close to the real one as well.

If it does, It could be a real treat, or a nightmare ...

If you are in the whip thread, I believe it's open for comment.

I can assume you are not done hole 1, but I played a few holes tonight, copied the link to the course from you tube.

Everything regarding your holes are really really nice, the trees though, really detract from the course. They are butt arse ugly. That is obviously not your fault and not much you can do, but man do you ever have an uphill climb prettying this place up scenery wise. I don't envy you and wish you the best of luck. If I was to be worthy to make any suggestion, I would "DAWG" it up, time for your touches.

Trees suck.

However, they are the best and closest from any theme I had to work with.

Country Theme - Nope (don't like country theme - and wrong trees)
Harvest/Autumn Themes - Nope (look to gaudy for my taste and wrong for this course).
Links theme - the only theme where I could have the OCEAN ... sucks for this Type of course.
Rural/Alpine themes - nope
Desert Theme ... no good (but California is in a 4 year drought - so maybe Desert isn't far off)
Don't have a Tropical theme - frankly I'm not interested from the looks of it ...

What I need is:
A Pacific West Coast theme ... But, I am not privy to having my wish fulfilled ... So ....

Boreal Theme was the only logical choice. It has PINE TREES .... maybe not the ones I want, but they are PINE Trees ... Cedar is a Pine tree ... I just don't have all the Pines I want ... (I actually have the textures for the trees I want ... and used to be able to make and add my own trees for use in a race sim I use to design for)

As for the species of trees at this course ...

Extracted history from an article I posted earlier:

The Olympic Club originated in 1860 as an athletic club embracing all sports and that tradition continues strong to this day.

When the Club purchased the failing Lakeside Country Club in 1922 Anyway in 1925, the membership under the direction of Sam Whiting, golf professional and greenkeeper, undertook a massive tree planting campaign to overhaul the barren treeless hillside between the clubhouse and Lake Merced.

30,000 trees were planted on this portion of the property.

The original plan called for the aromatic eucalyptus for fast growth, pines for secondary growth, and cypress for the permanent fairway trees. Redwoods and cedars were added for good measure.

I am not finished ... this is only to show what is of things to come ... Laughable to think I would release this course looking anything like it is in its current state ...

This is a "Dawg" Design  :P .... not some Auto generated plot, just add fairways and bling, and publish course.   :o

 >:(  ;)  ;D

 8)

While I'm at it, it was mentioned that the Course looks Flat ... the Highest point on the 1st fairway is 235 feet (According to Google earth and other info I found), I have raised the plot up from water level over 70+ meters (70 meters is 229 feet plus change). And reduced the height from there down ... I have no accurate way to measure what height each fairway is .... I only have Guesstimation tools ... so, it is, what it is  ... based on the "WAG" principal (Wild Ass Guess) ..

And why this is not the "Olympic Club" and never will be.

It might become .... The Lake "Winged O" Club Course
